Mingling with the great unwashed in Liverpool city centre to watch Inside Number 9 at the Liverpool Empire; compounded by travelling there and back by the dreaded train (as hideous as always). And the show was a let down, repeating 2 old episodes for the live tour is just lazy. Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith were on top form though and I do like both a lot, but laughs were few and far between sadly. Not an empty seat anywhere and sold out for all shows in Liverpool - kerrrrrchinggg.

I spent a lot of money to the front and side of the house last year. It required some TLC and I'm really pleased with the result. Two new walls and monoblocked path and driveway. 

My grotty neighbours always let their recycle bins overflow. They keep their bins on their driveway against my boundary and on windy nights all their crap blows into my front garden. Sometimes the wheelies topple over emptying their entire contents and the neighbours are very slow to pick it all up. 

So, when the guys were working last year I asked them to build a small wall and fence in the offending area to try and contain the mess to their side. It cost an additional £1600 but it has been money well spent for the most part. However, last night was quite stormy. My sister was visiting and stayed here last night. When I looked out this morning the garden was awash with cardboard and polystyrene and their grey rubbish bin had somehow toppled over the wall and was resting against the front grille of my sister's new car.

I checked the doorbell camera and it had happened around 11pm. The witch in residence decided to move it at 10:45am.

I really can't stand them and just wish they would move. I've lived here a long, long time and I'm no Victor Meldrew and prefer to get on with people but my patience is running out. They fancy themselves as flashy professionals but they should have an ASBO. My last attempt at reasonable objection to other poor behaviour resulted in them drunkenly insulting me at high volume.

I feel better now! Venting always helps.

Bought a Hitachi-LG Blu Rayplayer for the computer last year May. Use it to watch the occasional BR on my computer, but also to rip cds, which I occasionaly do. The thing just died on me, after a year and a half. Doesn't read any disc.
Returning it tomorrow, appears it has a 2 year warranty.

I am longing back to the days when you bought something that looked like a brick but worked forever.

Netflix has acquired Warner Brothers.

I'm not personally affected by this, nor do I necessarily think it's a bad thing. It's just that I remember Warner Brothers as one of the massive names in entertainment, one of the huge American studios. They made the first "talkie" and countless classic films and TV shows since. And now a company that started by posting DVDs out to people in the late '90s has bought them. Netflix owns Bugs Bunny now.

To be honest I thought that streaming films and TV over the Internet when Netflix started doing that in the noughties was a bit daft, a novelty.

It just makes me feel like I've lived so long that I'm in an alternate universe now.

Yes I had my total knee replacement yesterday thanks. We drove down to Oswestry on Friday and stayed in the worst Premier Inn I have ever been to and didn't get much sleep.

Got to the hospital at 0730 and it was packed - on a Saturday! But the masses soon shrank as the patients were called in. I started with a quick appointment with my consultant (I was to be last on the list of 4 for him), then a nurse and finally the Anaesthetist. Got changed into a gown and after an hour wait eventually got wheeled up to the theatres, which was a basically a large room with lots of operations all going on at once. I had a spinal anaesthetic so was fully awake and aware during the procedure, which took about 40 minutes. The Anaesthetist asked it I wanted to see what was happening and actually I did, so he pulled the curtain to one side and I could see the operation going ahead in a refection in a glass panel at the side. I didn't feel anything until he started whacking the titanium rod into my bone and then it was just vibration in my groin. I also got to see the staples going in when they dropped the curtain a bit early, then off to enhanced recovery at about 1415.

I got my first drink of sweet tea and some biscuits, which all tasted divine. I had to wait for some sensation start to appear then the physios got me to my feet and trotting about on crutches. The problem was I had to pass a stair test before being signed off and this young physio was concerned I couldn't manage them properly - thing is he was going off shift which would mean me staying overnight. No Fucking Way! (Btw my wife knows an ex-orthopaedic nurse and she said people used to stay in for 2 weeks after a total knee replacement and the operation has been described as a double amputation with metal bits stuck on each end put back together again). Anyway this lovely nurse, who basically ran the ward, got me on the stairs again and allowed me to go. I then had to wait for my big bag of drugs and dressings. I must have about 12 different drugs from pain killers (morphine, Nsaids etc.), blood thinners, laxatives, stomach settlers - my wife has sorted out a great schedule for me.

We got away at around 1915, so 12 hours all in. I was knackered, but my wife hates driving in the dark and it was raining too so I had remain alert for her sake - she made it safely though, bless her, and we got back just after 2100.

I didn't sleep at all last night and am feeling pretty rotten, the pain is getting worse as all the anaesthesia  wears off, but I did manage to remove all the bandages (from thigh to ankle) and just have a dressing for the next 2 weeks, when the staples are removed too.

The staff at the hospital were all amazing and so friendly and chatty. If anyone in the UK ever needs orthopaedic work definitely go the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt hospital in Oswestry.

So now it's a matter of doing my exercises - which seems impossible at the moment and taking it one day at a time. Here is a pic with the bandages off:
