I don't know if I'm the correct person to advise on this. I've had limited success with the platforms I've used, although better recently.

I tend to stick to a Facebook Group called Guitars For Sale In Scotland, or Gumtree. I like the group because you can form a reasonable opinion of the kind of person you might end up inviting to your home. Messaging is also handy and resulted in a very quick sale of my Lerxst Les Paul. I put it on at £650 and received £600 which pleased me as I got it for only £799 in Anderton's Epic Deal sale two or three months back.

Gumtree is not brilliant in my opinion. It does give you a supposed number of views figure but who knows if that is just a sales ploy. Communication is by encrypted email so an opportunity to determine if you're dealing with a Neanderthal still exists but there does seem a greater than average percentage of those on the site. I sold a Boss Katana on there at the beginning of the year but that's my only success.

I was tempted to have a real clear out recently and contacted Gardiner Houlgate the auction house which has specialist music sales. They were extremely helpful, valued my list of guitars before I'd even asked them to do so and offered their uplift service which involved no special packaging process. That really appealed to me as you're just dealing with their man in a van. All negotiable by commission which I didn't explore but even if your guitar(s) don't sell you can leave them there until the next auction. You can go on their site and check prices achieved at previous sales which is a nice feature.

I've never used EBay or Reverb but items on there seem to hang around a long time. I've also heard of issues where buyers can be difficult after a sale and go through a complaints procedure. I think EBay might be free now but Reverb I believe still charge a percentage.

The best thing about advertising something for me is I usually get cold feet and fall back in love with the guitar advertised. This has just happened with my Gibson Les Paul which is lovely and photographed really well. A guy from Newcastle is desperate to buy it (from FB) so the Scottish thing doesn't put folk off obviously. I told him a sale was pending but I'll take the ad down soon as I'd rather keep it.

Good luck with whatever you decide, James, but I bet you'll end up keeping them.

I had a guy round to install new fibre broadband. Works for a company contracted by Openreach, as far as I can tell. He was friendly, polite, did a neat job on fitting the equipment. Couldn't get it working because apparently there's some sort of cable blockage further along the close. He promised me that someone would come out to sort that out in the next few days.

But that's not what I'm annoyed about. The guy stank. I didn't say anything, he's gone now but I've had to leave the front door and a window open to clear the body odour out of the hall.

But that's not what I'm annoyed about. The guy stank. I didn't say anything, he's gone now but I've had to leave the front door and a window open to clear the body odour out of the hall.

Unless it's a health issue then it's completely unacceptable. How many homes must that individual pollute every day?

We had a young guy at work who was great at his job and a decent person, but he let things go with his personal hygiene. It was a really difficult time as the management ducked out of the problem and a couple of his colleagues had to deal with the situation. He didn't take it well to begin with and just shut them down.

The company should just have installed a sheep dip.

If you were happy with the work, you should've tipped him..............with a can of Lynx
