A bit annoyed with myself.

I've been getting intermittent network dropouts on my desktop PC. For many years I've run it on a homeplug connection to the router.  I suspected the homeplug might be to blame so, since WiFi has come on in leaps and bounds this last ten years or so, I bought a PCI WiFi card, a decent one with WiFi 5. The unused one that was in there was a crappy old Realtek chipset device, slow and flaky.

Took the old one out and binned it, put the new one in. Works great! While uncabling the old connection I noticed that the ethernet cable was plugged into a cheap domestic switch under my desk. I'd forgotten about that and actually that's more likely the cause of the problem.

But that's not what I'm annoyed about. Literally within 30 minutes of screwing the side back on the case I'd decided to buy a new PC, and ordered one from PCSpecialist.

So I've bought a £25 WiFi card that I'll only use for about a week, until the new PC arrives. The new one has similar WiFi built in. Anyway, for interest: the old one (left) and the new. I hadn't plugged the new antennae in yet.

Not happy - which is a good thing for this thread.
Still not able to put my full weight, or any weight for that matter, on my left foot. It's been 6,5 weeks, the cast went off 3 weeks ago and I was supposed to be called by the hospital today for follow up. I imagine this is a routine call, making sure everything is fine etc.
However, not being able to ut weight on my foot means I cannot walk, or at east ot normal or over long distances. I am limping basically. As of Friday I am off work, annual leave 2 weeks (plus Friday). So tradition tells me I need to go record shopping on Friday - I can't because that involves a lot of walking. Even more annoying: we have a week booked next week in a small house near the forest. We normally go walking so the house is not exactly outfitted for staying in. All of this leads to us probably cancelling the whole thing. Still a bit on the fence because I really want to get out, but being out there with no comfort, and not being able to go out seems a bit silly.

Anyway, I called the hospital and rearranged my appointment to go in. If anything I want them to look at the foot, which is difficult through the phone.

Anyway, like I said: Not happy.

I need a knee replacement. My right knee has been fucked since 2013 when I was jammed in the back of a taxi for 2 hours with my legs stuffed against a makeshift board. I eventually went to see my GP last year, followed by an x-ray. I heard nothing back so I made another GP appointment, this time leading to a steroid injection and a physio. Still not much happening so I went  back to yet another GP in March this year. As a veteran I am entitled to use a dedicated service. So I asked for a referral. Just staying within the local system would have been a wait of 18 months before even getting to triage stage with a physio. So I asked to be referred to the veteran centre down in Shropshire. Even that had a 6 month waiting list. But last Friday I got a call for an appt yesterday. So off to Oswestry to the Robert Jones orthopaedic hospital yesterday. Arrived too early but they got me x-rayed immediately and then straight to a consultant. I was in there 5 minutes only to be told all that can be done is a replacement. I'm a bit young but I agreed to get it done. I'm on the list and it will be a year from now (God knows how long it would have been staying in the local NHS here).

I saw the x-ray and my knee is just bone on bone - painful. I'm super impressed with The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital - probably the nicest, most efficient medical facility I've ever been to. The operation seems straightforward too and I'm surprised I could be in an out in a day - but I'd have to stay in a hotel either before or after. So the wait begins and I'll just keep hobbling on till then.

Hospital verdict: another 4-6 weeks before you can return to normal. No fracture, but the metatarsal ligament (sp?) is damaged and needs to heal.
Holiday is off that's for sure. Not to worry: I have a wekend booked in October.
