15 minutes late but : Pudders's birthday bash at The Crafty Pint, Witney - great night!

New 500mm mirror lens arrived. Probably made in the '80s but in extremely good nick. I took some test images with it handheld but although the telephoto ability is superb, about equivalent to 15x binoculars, the light wasn't good enough for a quick enough shutter speed to eliminate camera shake.

For interest though this is a crop, but unresized: a window frame 112 metres away.

Not moving it back to Grumpy but today's hospital visit was a two edged sword:
Have an appointment for inlay soles to help support my foot and toes, unfortunately it takes another 3 weeks to get to the appointment Plus they are going to adjust one pair of shoes I like walking on. but they will not to that on the spot, which means I will be without the only pair I can currently sort of walk on.

Oh well, all in the name of progress I suppose.. I am going to try and run in another pair over the next 3 weeks to bridge the waiting time..

Nice 10.3 mile walk this afternoon. Lots of water around on the bridleways, footpaths and fields but successfully managed to stick to our planned route. Two well-earned pints of Hobgoblin Gold from the cask in The Angel Inn, Witney. Rain held off until we got to the pub.. which was nice!

Yesterday's announcement that Grand Départ of the 2027 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will be in England.
Stage 2 to finish in Sheffield, like stage 2 of the men's in 2014, great the industrial decay of Sheffield will be broadcast to the world again!

Full route details still to be announced, but Stage 2 will do the Snake Pass, I mean Le Col du Serpent (Please let it be so). Funny but Mrs S and my good self took ages to remember the French for snake. I got there eventually, yes, mw with my Grade 'C' O-Level beat Mrs S with her 'A' grade A-level

So, last year our local craft pub in Witney, 'The Crafty Pint', won the CAMRA (Oxford Branch) 'Town/Village Pub Of The Year'. This year, not only has it retained that title but it has also won the Oxford Branch overall POTY! That means it will be entered into the national competition for the CAMRA POTY.
None too shabby when you consider the wonderful array of boozers to be found around these parts including the many great pubs in the city itself.

Cumnor Hill - 'posh' 

Yes, it's a lovely part of the country. I believe the premises were sold for housing after the company was sold by the family. It was a company with a really interesting history and was very much respected in the industry. It was never the same after the owner, the founder's son died. I visited the offices a couple of times and had a couple of great evenings in Oxford. Had a pint in one pub and spoke to a chap with a parrot on his shoulder. Maybe that's commonplace in Oxford. Not so much in Glasgow where it's always chips on that roost. I remember there was a car dealership next door the the branch and that they sold very upmarket vehicles, but strangely I can't remember which marque and I like cars. I think I should have moved south years ago as my home town has become little England in any case.

Finally got round to buying a shim for my #2 Japanese Stratocaster. Had it about ten years, but I've never much played it because the action was gross. Anyway neck off, shim in, neck back on, didn't even change the strings. Plays nicely now!
