I actually did this a few days ago.

In our living room on the first floor there was a blind cord hook screwed into the UPVC window frame. We got new blinds a few months ago, so I removed the hook. As soon as I removed the first of the two little screws, water came hosing out. About 150ml, probably.

Ever since, when it's rained, water has come dribbling through the screw holes.

It turns out that the frames are intended to allow rainwater to pass through, but there should be a drain hole at the bottom. I assumed it must be clogged. I had a good feel for it, by leaning out of the window and poking with a sharp implement, but I couldn't find it. It's very hard to get to the bottom of the frame. I'd have to climb up onto the porch canopy with a pair of ladders, and I'm not sure it would take my weight safely. I could just about reach it by leaning out of the open window. The bottom half of the window doesn't open.

So eventually I decided a more drastic measure was called for. I drilled my own drain hole. What could go wrong?

I had to stand on the windowsill, bent double, leaning right over the bottom half of the window with the drill. Fortunately it worked out nicely and the water drains outside now.

Went to PT today, after a couple of sessions of mobilising the affected foot area, today he put some pressure on and a clearly audible 'pop' emerged. After this my foot was able to come into motion, so the stiffness has relaxed somewhat.

Progress! Onwards and upwards, still some way to go but I'll take every little win.

Checked my banking app last night to see if my third and final annuity had started. It had. First payment 31st Dec. Good. Oh but wait - it's about £40 short.

Must have been paid under an emergency tax code, I assume. So I log into gov.uk. Yes, it has. Tax code ending X, meaning it's temporary and I'll get the £40 back. Good. And what's this? There's a message for me from November. I open it.

You've paid too much tax and we owe you £1,834, it says. Click this link to enter your bank details and you'll get it in 5 working days. So I did.

Far better to keep decorations after Christmas than put them up before as we're celebrating the passing of the Winter Solstice and the coming of better days.

I usually wait until 12th night but this year I put up the tree and decorations unusually early on December 1st. I'm so glad I did as there was a revolting incident courtesy of my loathsome neighbours shortly before Christmas. Suffice to say, and you wouldn't thank me for the details, it took the gloss of Christmas itself. I was quite glad to get the house back to usual business today especially as they later returned from a holiday today. Scum! Sorry not a very Christmassy, Christmas post.
