There's simply no denying that the Djoker's behaviour was disgraceful; that reflects badly on Morgan. Never a "great" sportsman of any kind.

Received the third and final pension "tax free lump sum". It's actually larger than some of my annual salaries of the past, although not in inflation-adjusted terms.

It's an odd thing to be getting money out of them again, after all this time.

Bought myself a new coffee mug at Tesco.

My knee replacement has been brought forward a week to Sat 06 Dec - yay.

I went down to Oswestry for my pre-op/assessment today which was a matter of visiting various nurses and a doctor. The doctor was the Registrar who supports the main surgeon. Anyway during introductions he first told me he would normally be in uniform at work, except today he had a function later on so was in civies. Turns out he is an RAF officer and he asked me what my background was and I told him I had been in the RAF too. He asked what I did - I told him comms/radar type stuff and he then said 'Trade Group 3'. This was a surprise as that trade group ended in the early 2000s and him knowing that was odd. It transpired that much of his family had been, or were, in the RAF and his father had been TG3. I asked his surname and it was Cain - yep I knew, and had worked with his dad, both at RAF Buchan and RAF Cosford. In fact in Peterhead we had lived a few houses apart and this new doctor was born and first raised in Peterhead. Talk about a small world stuff. I ask him to pass on my regards and that I would look him up at the TG3 reunion taking place May next year.
"Oh, for the wings of any bird other than a Battery hen."

A few years ago I accidentally let one of the cats out the front door at my mum's house. She was a house cat and it was dark, so I tore out after her. Forgetting I had put up a low fence earlier in the day I landed face first on the driveway. I limped back indoors realising my arm looked a bit funny but I seemed ok. My mum and sister looked at my arm, were horrified and drove me straight to A&E. It was a tricky elbow break so the doctors decided not to put me in plaster and instead asked me to come back in the morning to see the orthopaedic surgeon.

I duly returned next day and was quickly called into the surgeons office. I was in several of his classes at secondary school, although he obviously didn't remember me and tried to convince me it was his brother I was remembering. Weird as my notes stated that we were the same age, his brother being two or three years older.

Fortunately surgery wasn't required and I was greatly relieved as I really didn't fancy a classmate operating on me. It just wouldn't seem like real medicine to me somehow.

When I was at University I broke my elbow badly and it did need operating on. I didn't personally know any of the surgical team, but one of them was a young orthopaedic surgeon called Roger Hackney. I used to watch a lot of athletics back in the day - as did the future Mrs S - and we knew Roger Hackney as a 3,000m Steeplechase runner. In on race David Colman called it as "and 'Ackney moves up one spot"

When I had the metalwork removed from my elbow, it was under a local anaesthetic and I heard the surgeon say "Was young Hackney involved in this" on affirmation he said "Hmmm, thought so..."

I went to Ibiza in 1983 on my first holiday abroad with my pals. I was sitting by the pool one afternoon and got talking to a young Welsh girl. I noticed a large faded scar on her shin and asked her about it. She had broken her leg a few years before and J P R Williams had carried out the repair.

I'm trying my best to de-clutter at the moment. I'm a terrible paperwork hoarder. I the middle of one pile was the Arsenal v Leeds Utd F.A Cup Final 1972 programme. Cover price 15p. I wonder what programmes for the final sell for now. Must look it up. Just did. 2025's was £10. A 6566.67% rise if my arithmetic is still holding up.

By that logic a bottle of whisky should be £168 and a pint of beer about a tenner. The beer isn't far off.
