Sitting by the canal at a pub at Barrow on Soar, heard what sounded suspiciously like a WW2-vintage piston engine, looked up, Spitfire!

Checked Planefinder, it was the Rolls-Royce Spitfire.

I first saw the "RR Spit" in 1990 when it overflew our premises at Raynesway. Unfortunately that one was destroyed in a crash at an air show two years later. The one I saw today was acquired by the company in 1996.

My last day of this particular Greek Odyssey, so I've gone "all out" speaking "sta Hellinika" to the local staff and natives and the praise I've received for my "good accent", to quote one example, is genuinely thrilling and gratifying.

Got a new powered roller garage door fitted yesterday. As we were sorting the garage out I decided the whole thing needs doing, so: get the floor self-levelled, get some decent flooring down, paint all of the inside and get new lights and sockets. Of course to do all that I needed to clear it out. I've spent the last few days sorting and chucking - so much shit after years of dumping. Anyway it's now empty (after a few tip runs) and what was left I managed to squeeze it all into a 7x5 garden shed, which includes all of my car detailing kit. I'm fucked now of course. Next - give it a good clean, then floor, walls and power/lights, then some new racking.

Nice day today, 'er indoors and I went to Ashbourne. Not long after we got there we decided to have a walk along the Tissington Trail which is a disused railway line repurposed as a trail for gravel bikes and hikers. We got as far as Thorpe, a bit more than 4km away. Had lunch and a drink there. Walked back. Lovely warm sunny day. Had a drink in Melbourne on the way home as well.

On the way back into Ashbourne we walked through the old train tunnel there.

Jusr closed down for summer holidays, but late I know, and it's not like I am going to be doing a lot but to be off work all together is nice. Time as well, many people got to me this past week. Time to kick back now.

Relaxing by a pool in Dubai. Last here about 20 years ago, certainly changed a bit. Quite amazing in parts. Not sure if I would come on holiday here though, plus it's like an oven.

University College London has an online Modern Greek course starting next month with weekly two-hour lessons over ten weeks.

I submitted my interest a couple of weeks ago and this afternoon one of the  teachers called me to evaluate from which level I should begin the course.

Basically there are six levels, Level 1 being "Beginner" and Level 6 being "Proficient" (which I take to mean as pretty much "Fluent").

Turns out I would start at Level 2 - Lower Intermediate, which considering I'm self-taught I'm pretty happy about!
