In Madrid for 4 days..

It's great.. lovely city.. and a ton of places to eat n drink.

Lived in Madrid for a couple of years in the early 90s and absolutely loved my time there. Also spent a year in Barcelona which is probably the more attractive city but I'd chose Madrid over it's Catalan cousin every time.

I was setting up my car insurance for our new car yesterday. I used Comparethemarket as usual and went through all the vehicle and personal information as normal. I selected one of the quotes and went to the Provider where I then went through any extras (Legal, Protected No Claims, Breakdown etc.). I was just about to pull the trigger to continue and pay when my phone rang regarding another matter. As I was talking I was just idly scrolling up and down the insurance options that were listed on the provider's site.

It was then I noticed that both my wife's and my own Driving Licence dates were listed as May 2000. I came off the phone and had a closer look. Going back to Comparethemarket, the part where it asks about how long you've had your licence, the furthest back it allows you to go is +25 years - which then passes to the provider's site as May 2000. Back on the provider site I changed my DL date to the 1980s (when I passed my test). And, blow me, it took £15 off the quote.

I then changed my wife's to the same and again it took another £15 off. So a total saving of £30. I haven't tried it on another comparison site, but I'm sure they'll all be the same. So if you passed your test more than 25 years ago, just make sure you put the real date on the insurance providers' site.

Football player and former Dutch team winger Quincy Promes is being extradited to the Netherlands. He was in Dubai, and had played in Russia for years after leaving Ajax when it became apparent he would be indicted for importing a lot or cocaine and, wait for it, stabbing his nephew in the knee at a family event.

Why does this make my day? Well, criminals like this with enough money think they outrun the law so this feels like a comfort. And two weeks ago he asked whether he could come back to the Netherlands and await his appeal case in freedom.
Of course not you idiot, you have been sentenced to 7,5 years imprisonment.

Finally getting what he deserves, no one is above the law.
