Just the usual garden chairs getting blown around here. But I did hear of a tree coming down on a car in a pub car park a few miles away.

Mad day. Will have a check around the place in daylight tomorrow as I noticed the neighbours facing my home have sustained some roof damage. It was too dangerous to venture out earlier and a bit nerve wracking when I had to, to pile concrete blocks in front of the garage doors. The roof tile going through our Ford Zodiac during the '68 hurricane has stayed with me all this time. Wild hailstorm an hour or so ago but some welcome calmer conditions seem to have arrived.

Went for a short drive around town to keep the car's battery charged. I expected to see a bit of damage but was quite staggered by the number of trees which were down. Tree surgeons out in force making a tidy sum but I noticed they were only actually clearing anything which protruded onto the road with the remaining obstacles being left until later. I got caught out on a more country stretch of road where the crown of a tree perched on a stone wall alongside some woodland clattered the side of my car. Light branches so no damage fortunately but an almost invisible hazard against a dark sky on a sleety day. Gales tomorrow! "Drill baby drill" is beginning to make me very, very angry.

I sympathise. Yesterday was a bit warmer and clammier than usual for Glasgow, and my poor big dog just couldn't take it. I had to soak a bath towel to put over him to relieve the distress and the temperature was nothing like what you are enduring. I think I'll consider moving further north.

It's been building up from Saturday onwards already, culminating in today. Tomorrow around 4pm some showers should arrive and wash away the heat.
