Red alert! In the kitchen and just about to start dinner when a loud alarm went off. I'd no idea what it was then realised my phone was in my back pocket. Full page government weather warning advising on safety measures including gathering essentials together. They emphasise it should be items we have already at home but I suppose the roads will now be jammed with everyone heading to Tesco for a bit of panic buying.

I suppose that will be the same phone alert we get if any of the planet's current list of madmen decide to lock horns in any serious way. Horrible thought. Good sound for it though. Quite eerie.

Storm starting to hit a lot harder now. Glad to be about 40 miles inland but the Clyde Valley does seem to channel high winds very effectively and that's not too far from here. Very glad that I took down the 50 year old Ash tree a while back. The tree surgeon gave me a 50mm thick slice of the trunk as a souvenir. I could hardly lift it as it was so heavy. I can only imagine how devastating a tree that size coming down must be. Several tonnes of cellulose and water crashing onto a house doesn't bear thinking about. Hope Fishy's doing ok. Stay safe anyone in an affected area.

Been a bit windy in Englandland, At midday I thought it had calmed down enough to go for a ride round the lanes so I got suited and booted. Grabbed the bike, walked down the drive and turned back.
I've ridden in stupidly windy conditions before, but the gust that got me was just a bit too much and it's the gusts which ruin it.

Lights beginning to flicker now so power cut maybe not far away.

Couple of power losses which thankfully only lasted a couple of mins mid morning ..wind started picking up about 6am then really ramped up after 8am.. weather app has us past the peak with gusts now at 80 and gradually reducing in the afternoon thankfully.. still gusty as hell at the mo..

Hope this doesn't get any worse. Quite scarily bad at the moment. Memories of 1968 but that was during the night and I thought it was great fun back then running about the house with my torch. Reports of a tree hitting a car just up the road from us.

Just really, really windy here in Blackpool. Just got back walking with the dogs and saw one tree down. The houses further down our street a bit back on to a woods. I'd be really worried living there.

Had to dive outside to do a running repair to the garage doors which had blown open. The wind really is lift you off your feet strength at present. And freezing cold.

Bizarrely it has now brightened here and the sun is almost out..

3000 homes in the vicinity were without power but we escaped without any  loss here. Plenty of branches on the road but nothing to worry about really. Considering it was a status red I think we got off pretty lightly.  Another storm due on Sunday but expected to be of a much lower impact than today

I've been hunkering down while working from home all day and popped out briefly for an errand this afternoon.

We were on the cusp of yellow and amber zones and it appears we've got away with it relatively lightly.  Yes, there were certainly strong gusts but nothing exceptional - all the junk in the back garden waiting for a bulk Council collection is still present and correct, (un)fortunately.
