Pleasantly warm here at the mo (24c) but cloudy. Should sit in the garden with a Leffe really but I'm nerding out at a computer.

Work from home, in my workroom (which is the attic), fully exposed to the sun and I am seeing it is now 30,9C. I think I'll be done shortly, back up at 5AM, I'll pick it up then.

It's because two weeks of nice, balmy weather with pretty much cloudless skies and beautiful sunsets in a U.K. summer is very much the exception and a lottery; in Mediterranean latitudes it's virtually guaranteed every single day from May to September.

Also: schools and child-minders have summer holidays too...

The beginning of May or the end of September would always be my choice. Definitely not August. Too hot by far - expectedly so.

Yes, now for me, if we're talking city breaks which will involve a fair bit of walking/sightseeing/probable queuing etc, I'd definitely prefer that in the low season - Athens, for example, is still warm enough for t-shirt/shorts during the day in late October and a bit beyond, but isn't rammed with too many bloody tourists.
