Alex seemed to enjoy that as an outlet, so it's not unlikely it will continue.

Is it too soon to start a setlist thread? What will they open with? The Spirit of Radio gets my vote for that. But those that will say Tom Sawyer might be far off either.

One thing that keeps popping into my head is this: how much of CA will they do, it felt to me like a Neil album, it was their goodbye and in coming back for some fun shows, (A Tribute to the Music of Rush?) it seems unfitting to revisit that particular album.

All the above but Afterimage would be great. If they do get a keyboard player, and Ged stated he wants to play keys on the "hits", then they have to go heavy on Grace,Power and HYF, otherwise there won't be enough content.

When the Rush.com email dropped into my inbox I have to admit to feeling slightly torn about this. R40 wasn't all that, although I would have loved the opportunity to witness it.

The stage set didn't appeal to me somehow and Geddy's Big Book Of Bass promotion took the edge off that iconic image he has always owned on stage. I'm a bass guitar fanatic but the pageant of weird looking models around his neck just didn't sit right. The Rickenbackers needed to be Jetglo.

The other angle is the respect I have (had) for their power trio status. They were supremely the best at that and additional members just seems an alien concept. The string ensemble I could accept as it was just Rush with sprinkles.

What might Neil make of this as he sips his unearthly estate (cue Matt & James) Macallan? He picked the time when he decided enough was enough and he had stated in the past that Geddy's vocal cords would be contributory to that decision. No doubt he would nod in approval of his wife and daughter enjoying a top-up via performance royalties to his estate, but the Silver Surfers sale probably massaged that fund a little. Who knows what that man of strong opinions might really have thought.

If it rolls into Europe the following year when Geddy and Alex will be what, 73, and if they stay fit and healthy and are enjoying it and playing well, I will be delighted and probably a bit overwhelmed to witness it again. I just hope it doesn't feel a bit like a circus act.

I am pretty sure Neil would have enjoyed the idea. He was always very supportive of other drummers practicing the Craft to the extent he would pick 'winners' in Modern Drummers' (the magazine) contests as far back as 1987. Being the new Kid himself, he'd appreciate the new new Kid for sure.

But alas, no one will really know, eh? (adding a lil' Canuck touch here for good measure).

And to be fair: anyone standing on a stage is making a circus, willingly or not.

On that basis would a European tour perhaps not be viable if they can't build a multiple date structure. I wonder how the finances would stack up for for 4 x London O2, 2 x NEC or Manchester, 2 x Glasgow Hydro. I don't know what the audience figures are for mainland Europe or if they could condense the shows into two or three countries. How many shows would it take to be profitable?
