My overall mood has noticeably lifted with the lengthening days and fair weather this week.

Mine has too. I had a real struggle in January but it's a distant memory now. Onwards and upwards!

For example 08:22 on 25th Dec 2024 is shown below. Confusingly the line you see passing through Middlesbrough is not the actual sunset line, it's when the sun is 1 degree below the horizon (because that's when "daylight" is considered to start). But the sunset line follows it quite closely obviously. On this map it would be passing over the tip of Cornwall and Hull, roughly. You can see where it is on the site by hovering the mouse over the map.

Since the installation of Solar panels, good sunny days leave me feeling even better, but dark cloudy days worse.

i guess that in the Summer further North is lighter and the reverse in the Winter

I am always a bit disappointed when travelling to warmer climes such as The Canary Isles etc when it gets dark quite early!

That's compensated for me, in the summer at least, by the sunsets being exquisitely beautiful and that it's always warm enough through the night just for t-shirts and shorts.

One some days in January, the sun has set over parts of Ireland when it's still up over quite a significant region of England, and most of Wales. Never would have thought that.

Was looking up when the Spring equinox occurs this year (20th March)and came across a new term - equilux. Equinox is an astronomical term when the Earth has no tilt towards the Sun. This means that day and night are more or less equal. Equilux is when day and night are exactly equal. This year in our neck of the woods it's the 17th or 18th, depending exactly where on the neck.
