Bought any Vinyl Recently?

Beat LPs are in. Very disappointed. Basically the CD master pressed to vinyl. Terribly overcompressed. Won't get much play I'm afraid. Might sell them on, which I rarely do.
I don't understand why, it's not a radioband, they don't have to do this.

Will see if I can find a blu ray rip somehwere, that will sound a lot better for sure.

Just got the Apple LP by Mother Love Bone delivered yesterday. They did a 35th ann. press. Nice.
Oddly enough someone messed up because the hype sticker says "25th anniversary". Oh well.

Now THIS is how to master and cut vinyl. Depth, warmth, excellent stereo separation all while keeping it open sounding. Very happy with Apple (haven't heard the EP but expect it to sound equally fantastic).

I managed to get a CD to FLAC rip and also the full Blu ray download (40GB). I had a quick scan of the BR on my laptop and apart from the concert itself the only extras are 'Crew Arriving', Before Tour Interview, During Tour Interview and an After Interview - all 4 quite short. The concert sound is only DTS, DTS-HD and PCM stereo. I'll run it through my system before committing to any purchases.

I happened on a market stall trader selling used vinyl in Cheltenham on Saturday. A good bit of crate-digging ensued and I came across a cooy of Little Feat's Sailin' Shoes. I examined the vinyl and it looked good. The G/F sleeve, whilst clearly 'of an age' was in good condition too. Best bit was the price - £10!
Unfortunately, it was too good to be true. Sizzling bacon all the way through. Ah well, some you win.........

Sorry all for taking this thread OT. Anyway but I've pulled the stereo PCM from the BR using AudioMuxer to 24-48 WAV files. This is the first track shown in Spek. Looks good to me, going all the way to 24 Khz. I'll have a fiddle and convert to FLAC and sort out all the meta data.

Not really up on this, are we looking at compression here, as signified by the absence of quieter signals at all frequencies (on the CD)? Complete absence of blue at 1.00 - is that significant?
Can you explain what we are looking at.....in less than a couple of hours?

You are looking at the frequency range. Next step would be to see the dB level, that shows how limited the recording is.

Frequency range can used to determine whether something is (for instance) an MP3 compressed file.

Edit: good that you're asking this. It's really the dynamic range I am interested in seeing.

I can't really determine the difference in the graphs in that case. There seems to be info up to 24khz in the second graph also.
Yes, the dynamic range is far more important when assessing whether a recording is compressed.

You can't, you just see it is a lossless source with no high frequency cutoff
