Bought any Vinyl Recently?

The Damned - The Black Album. Why did I take another chance on getting a decent copy of this? I've always wanted a copy of the double LP edition containing the excellent side-long (goth?) epic, Curtain Call.
I did buy a s/h copy a while ago but was disappointed by the quality of the pressing so passed it on. I spotted a new copy of the reissue (Ace Records) for the reasonable sum of £18.99 on Discogs the other day and decided to take a punt.
Disappointed again, I'm afraid. A number of quiet passages spoilt by noise. Actually all in the same places as on the last copy so, I'm assuming the issue is with a poor stamper.
Oh for an audiophile copy that's been produced with more care!

Try listening to it on streaming to see if the noise isn't in the source recording? A lot of older recordings have either not been done very well to begin with, or the source used for the LP is just not good. If the latter is the case you should really look for an original copy or (from what I read) a US press.

Made in Japan 10LP boxset is in. Lovely box, curious to hear what Wilson made of the sound on the original 2LP. Each LP (except for the original 2LP) has an indiviual glossy photosleeve and (drumroll please), polylined innersleeves! Finally someone got the message..
Also an LP sized 60 page colour book, a sort of tourbook replica and a large poster.

Mühr- Messiah

Dutch band, released in 2013 on white vinyl. This has 1 47 minute track divided over 2 sides obviously. It takes its time to get going and it meanders, roars and steams. Lovely.

Saw a notification last Bandcamp Friday they found a box of 25 LPs and put them up for sale. Quickly snatched up a copy, they sold out fast.

I visited Riverman Records on Walton Street in Oxford for the first time on Monday. A veritable treasure chest of used vinyl with a more eclectic choice than you normally come across. I spent well over an hour crate-digging and could still have spent another hour to get through everything that I would be interested in.
I struggled to work out the pricing strategy because after initially thinking most stuff was a bit pricey, it didn't take long to find some interesting records that were cheap and still looked in decent condition.
Anyway, I came away with three good LPs:
BÖC - Mirrors (£10)
Jon Anderson - Olias Of Sunhillow (£5)
Status Quo - Quo (£3!)
All decent copies that play well. The Mirrors sleeve has a bit of ringwear but a strong spine and has the picture inner. The Jon Anderson solo has some slight surface noise in places but has a lovely sleeve with the additional page inside the gatefold and the inner with illustrations and lyrics. The Quo record is in great condition as is the sleeve and that too has the original lyric insert which is mint.
Looking forward to a return visit. A large jazz section that I didn't get around to..........nice!

I love browsing record stores, the used sections are treasure troves. Bit expensive these days but the prices you state sound about right. It's a bit of a guess, it's not always what you see is what you get. Myself I am not too discerning on the state of the cover, vinyl needs to be neat.
Unfortunately missed my traditional holiday haul due to the foot injury but e=when that is fulle healed I will simply take a day off and go for it :-)

OT: I ordered the Beat Tour 3LP set. Saw it for an OK price, and had points saved up. Not something I usually do but this shop just deducted it from the total, for the equivalent of around 37 Pound I get the 3LP set delivered home.

It relates to their claim that their LPs are "all analog" when in fact a digital conversion is used in the production process. Was made a big deal out of a few years back. Since then they have a clear SPARS code with lineage on the cover.
However, to these ears, the MoFi presses I have just sound phenomenal and often outdo original presses. The fact that there is a digital step in there at some point (which for some albums is unavoidable due to tape deteoration or simply it was a digital recording in the first place) does not necessarily mean lower quality. It is my understanding MoFI travels with a super high end DSD machine to the master tape and does a transfer on the spot, whereas in the past they got sent the master tape for the transfer and worked directly from that. Honestly, as much as I prefer 'authentic', I am yet to discover something 'wrong' with the MoFi albums. I have quite some Miles Davis MoFis and in terms of price / quality (I bought them beofre they went over the top) and I consider them to be the end station of what I need out of these albums.

The stupidist thing though are the mob screaming "we will sue MoFi!", stupid litigation-happy Americans.

Anyway, long story short: in most cases if you need a definitive vinyl version of a classic album, get the MoFi one, they know what they are doing. Having said that, since then many labels have found the audiophile market to be less of a niche they thought it was, and have started their own audiophile series. Most of those are worth it too, unfortunely the price is the consequence here. Expensive. When listening to jazz, yes it is often worth it to buy a newly mastered (not remastered! Different proces!) and cut fomr the original tapes analog press from the likes of Blue Note but that's because they offer them up a reasonable retail prices and the cuts sound great.

Just got the Apple LP by Mother Love Bone delivered yesterday. They did a 35th ann. press. Nice.
Oddly enough someone messed up because the hype sticker says "25th anniversary". Oh well.
