DHL: we missed you for delivery!
No you didn't, you never tried delivering.

Amazon: DHL tried to deliver.
No they did not.

Why do these people insist on lying? I am home, waiting for the delivery. We dis not miss each other, you never showed up.

Yeah, f**king infuriating isn't it?! £1300 per month from the taxpayer. Successive governments promoting broken families, fecklessness and entitlement. All on us  >:(
Never any mention of child maintenance in these cases is there?

^ What annoyed me mostly about that article is the matter-of-fact way in which she lists the UC as a sort of expectation, then her annoyance that she may lose it when her sprogs grow up.

A woman used to work 16 hours a week for my wife. When they asked her to up her hours she refused as it meant she would lose the benefit top up that she got. It's just mad.

I mean is this common? Is everyone on some sort of benefit except me? Am I a mug for being sensible and saving hard, overpaying my mortgage as soon as I could, never claiming anything, ever, then one day I'll probably have to sell my home to pay for care in a room next door to someone who has spunked their money up the wall all their lives and getting it for free.

Sorry but that article really hit a nerve with me - and her expenses too: Netfilx, Prime, Disney+, £160 on mobile phones ffs - I spend £15 a month for 2 sim only deals. And she quit her job because it was too hard - boo fucking hoo.

Get people on benefits and they become beholden to the government.

I was once in a situation when I spent a year out of work following a redundancy and ended up claiming Working Families Tax Credit. I only ever got what I was due to - and it was a lot - but forever after you get deluged with shit asking for if you still qualify for it. I think it took about ten years for them to realise I was OK and the letters stopped.

This ^ - spot on. It's a f**king game played by politicians at the expense of decent people.

We were awaiting the order of 2 new glass internal doors. Well at 0900 this morning we got a call from our joiner saying he'd got them and he'd be there immediately to fit them. No issues, as he turned up a few minutes later. Now I must be a bit naive as I thought a couple of hours, tops, would be enough. No, 5 hours later and he's still there. I had a peak when he went out to his van and saw he only had one handle to fit - at last. But, he came back and told me both doors were warped and he couldn't tell before fitting and there was no way to fix the issue. So, now they are in, unpainted, waiting to be completely replaced and redone when they get new doors in. This time he said they will jig them up first to check they are okay before fitting. What a waste of a day - and there is sawdust everywhere.

A few months ago, I decided to get quotations for replacing an aging Velux window. It turned into a bit of a ball-ache, usual thing, people not responding etc. One company quoted really high after coming to survey the job. They seemed like nice guys and had good customer testimonials. Their quote included a charge for disposing of the packaging and the old window. I requested a re-quote based on leaving the window and packaging for me to get rid of. They agreed but sent a new quote with the items removed but the same price for the job! Maybe they really didn't fancy it, for some reason.
I had also contacted a company that had glowing reviews and seemed to have a very professional approach, supplying an online form to complete with all the relevant details (window type, size, finish etc). It even included a section to upload photos of the existing installation. They responded with a quotation that was around £500 cheaper than the other one.....happy days! The quote included the price for extras such as blinds, motorised opening etc. So I responded to request a manual blind to be included in a colour we had selected. An email response confirmed the addition and that the finish of the new window would be pine (to match existing). I sent an email 06/09 to say I was happy for the work to be scheduled, I also explained that they were welcome to come and survey the job beforehand at an agreed time/date.
On 11/09 the guy responded to say that he was happy to proceed and had the window in stock, he would just need to order the blind. He also confirmed there was no need for a survey, he was happy with the photos I'd provided.
I waited....and waited.
Over the last few weeks, I've ruminated over chasing him up and decided I would do that when we returned from our holiday. Then, out of the blue, I got an email this last Tuesday asking if it was OK for them to do the work "this Friday" - today.
A interchange of emails confirmed they would be here a around 9:00am. We duly prepared the room, shifting stuff into other rooms and placing some old duvet covers down across our (cream) lounge carpet.
They arrived bang on 9:00am. Neil was obviously the 'main man' and after cordial introductions, I took him through to the room to look at the window. We had a brief chat and all seemed well until he enquired, "you did ask for a white finish, didn't you?
Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!
It's funny but I had played this scenario through my mind a few days ago and concluded that it was unnecessary to confirm all the details before they arrived. It's in my nature to examine what could go wrong but I sometimes think, no, don't bother them I'm sure they know what they are doing. It's a fine balance when working with contractors, I find, when you can easily appear to be a pain in the arse. Although I should have learnt the lesson by now because this sort of shit happens to us....a lot.
So, after apologising and suggesting he may be able to source a pine finish window from a supplier today, Neil and his mate disappeared with a vow to let me know later what was happening. He's currently heading to Bristol to pick up a window and we've agreed he will return on Monday because he may not be able to comfortably complete the work after a 3hr round trip to collect the item that he'd confirmed he would be fitting weeks ago.
How the f**k do these people make a living?  I am officially a grumpy c**t for the rest of the day  >:(

Halloween.. wtf is the point of it

Quote from: Fishy on October 31, 2025, 06:35:47 PMHalloween.. wtf is the point of it
All Hallows' Eve originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain and the later Christian holiday of All Saints' Day, which was moved to November 1st. Celebrated from October 31st to November 1st, Samhain marked the end of summer and the harvest, and was believed to blur the lines between the living and the dead, allowing spirits to cross over. Over time, Christian observances of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day were placed on November 1st and 2nd, absorbing and influencing many of the older traditions.

You're welcome  ;)

It lets people wander round Tesco dressed as Dinosaurs, Sharks and Bananas. Although what that has to do with Halloween I knoweth not.

Oh for the days of Turnip Lanterns and Apple Bobbing. Death to this American Monstrosity.

I manage properties or a living.  This happens all the effin' time and is probably the reason why I am constantly in a bad mood and tired.  I can't wait to retire, but I fear that I am miles away.
