One day in 1998 an American colleague of mine told his son, who was visiting from San Francisco, that our office at Canary Wharf was "just a few seconds" of longitude from the Prime Meridian. You could see Greenwich from one of the windows, which I think is what prompted their conversation.

I've often remembered that and wondered if it was true, but never got round to actually checking until today. It's not really true, we were about 86 seconds of longitude from it. 1.66km.

So that's another thing off the to-do list.

A 200 mile round trip to Oswestry for a follow-up appointment about my knee replacement. I was in there for 5 minutes with the consultant. He didn't even need to see my knee. All good, but I wonder if a video call would have sufficed.

Yes, there's a case for this to be in the Grumpy thread given it shouldn't have got to this absurd position in the first place, but on balance I'm happy to see another application of biological reality and plain common sense after the recent Girl Guides ruling.

I had a carotid artery ultrasound at home this morning.

My dad had a stroke in his late sixties so I've lately ruminated in recent years on whether I should have this diagnostic procedure done. I started looking into it a few days ago and called Nuffield Health who run the private Manor Hospital in Oxford (which I've used a few times before). They told me I'd have to go to their facility in Cheltenham and the cost would be £650. I'm glad I did a little more research.

After a few more phone calls on Wednesday, I booked an appointment with Comfort Scan. They travel to you and carry out the scan in your own home. Charges start at £150. I spoke in person to the doctor who would be visiting and she told me that even though she is based in Milton Keynes, she covers the Oxfordshire area. She told me there would be lots of appointment options available and to book online. The total charge was £194 including travel charge.

So, she arrive promptly at 10:30am today accompanied by another gentleman who helped bring the equipment indoors and the procedure took around 20 mins. Thankfully, my arteries are in excellent health with no plaque or restrictions visible. I do however, have a cyst on my thyroid gland but this is not concerning.I will be provided with the scans and a report as part of the service. Couldn't be easier!

That's something I've been meaning to do for a while sorted.

Careful now, Mrs S had a cyst on her thyroid gland. She ended up having a Right Thyroidectomy.

I remember going to see her in hospital after the operation. The incision was closed with staples and she looked like Frankenstein's monster! I'm a squeamish so and so and didn't like the look of it, she asked for a mirror so she could take a look. When she did she started to laugh and blood started to see from between each staple. I feel faint just typing it...
