Careful now, Mrs S had a cyst on her thyroid gland. She ended up having a Right Thyroidectomy.

I remember going to see her in hospital after the operation. The incision was closed with staples and she looked like Frankenstein's monster! I'm a squeamish so and so and didn't like the look of it, she asked for a mirror so she could take a look. When she did she started to laugh and blood started to see from between each staple. I feel faint just typing it...

Hmmm, perhaps I will get it investigated.

Had the telephoto lens out to see if I could get any decent pics of passing aircraft. This one was 23km away at 34,000 feet. It's not brilliant but I quite like the way you can see the American Airlines marking on the tail.

Snapped this 747 operated by OneAir a couple of minutes after takeoff from East Midlands. About 8km away, at an altitude of about 1200 metres.

I was watching a documentary on Channel 5 about lighthouses. The first one was a bout Muckle Flugga on the most northerly tip of the UK, just off the coast of Unst in The Shetland Islands - it's a great watch btw. I remember the place from my time at RAF Saxa Vord in the 80s. Anyway I started googling and stumbled across this site https://ahistoryofrafsaxavord.blogspot.com/ The gent who put all this together has now sadly passed away but he's gone to a monumental effort to gather all this information and I've spent the last 2 hours going through it all (still more to see and read). But he's put pictures on there of when the radomes blew way in a horrendous storm in '91 and earlier when an unprotected radar just blew away over a cliff in the early 60s. These were massive Air Defence radars as well and the wind there is hard to put into words how bad it was.

In the first picture that's me marching 5th from left (if you include everyone in the picture) and the second I am 2nd from the left. I must have been 19/20 at the time and a mere Junior Technician. Lots of great memories on this blog site.

Going to a live Rugby Union game for the first time since the 80s this afternoon. Only Fylde vs Rossendale (Nat League 2 North) but it was a hoot. A few beers to start then a nice meal - then the game. Watching made me feel like I wanted to play again. Too many beers and too much wine - I was fine but but son managed to throw up in the back of my car on the way home. Eww, cleaning up was horrible when we got home, what a lightweight he is.    Fylde won though

I went to play Dream Theater - Train of Thought on vinyl yesterday (I bought the lp just before Xmas). Unfortunately it had 2 disc2s and no disc1. I was way outside the return window, so I went to the release page on Discogs to see if anyone else had this issue. No, but a gent there was reporting that his copy came with 2 disc1s and a disc2 so had a spare. I contacted him and he is sending the spare over from Holland at delivery charge only. I'm really pleased as I'd given it up as a lost cause.

^ Yes, what a lovely gesture and really kind to go out of his way to send it to me. Now that I have a spare disc2 I've posted a similar message on the release page in case anyone needs it and I'll do the same. 

Baffles me how these mistakes are made though. It's taught me a lesson to always check the records as soon as I've got them.
