Back in more obsessional Rush times for me I missed out on the registration G3 DDY. I regretted it for a long time after it was sold as I'd been close to buying it for several weeks. I later picked up RU55HHH which is now on retention as I am no longer a car owner. I don't expect I'll be driving much in future so I think I should consider moving it on, but I've no idea if this would be of much interest to an ageing, probably more sensible fanbase, but maybe there is some fanboi out there that this might still appeal to. If you know of any such individual.........!

I sometimes see a parked car from Belgium over here equippped with vanity plates. I must admit I thought your country was above that.

For me it was more stupidity than vanity. A Rush preacher fuelled by an obsessional interest back then.

They're all over the f***kin' place! I followed one near Oxford yesterday and even though the spacing and the number had been severely (and unlawfully) manipulated to mean something to the owner, I had no clue how it was supposed to read. I really wanted to pull alongside and gesture to the driver that I had no clue, could he help me?  ;D

For myself, I think that anyone with a so called "personalised" plate should be lined up against the wall and shot. I don't care if it has your initials on it, I couldn't care less it refers to your favourite beat combo or football team. It's just a bit of small minded vanity. You know who you are, you know what you like. I couldn't give a shit.

There's a special circle of Hell reserved for those who manipulate their plates with "randomly" placed scres and artful squiggles. Do these people have spare plates for when they have their vehicles MOTed?

And why the hell do the police ignore this fragrant violation of the rules. These people are also avoiding being nicked for speeding and other motoring offences.

They don't have the numbers to get a sniff of such violations and I don't think the legislation is in place for the courts to deal with eternal damnation.😂 Thanks for distracting me from my sciatica.

It takes more than that to cheer me up!

I think I felt quite cheerful one day in 1993  :)

Does anyone recall a real life TV show from 10 or so years ago called Nigel? It starts by introducing us to a Nigel, an upper middle-class type, with a nice car and sometime in the past he had paid a load for the registration N2GEL. They then introduce him to another Nigel who is loaded and owns the registration N1GEL - a plate our first guy has coveted for years. When he gets to the gorgeous house owned by our super-rich Nigel, the drive parts and up rises a stunning Lamborghini out of a hidden garage buried in the ground with the N1GEL plate. The show doesn't transpire how you'd expect as N2GEL realises he is never going to own that plate and eventually sells his own, giving up the fight. Quite a fascinating show.

Private plates are all a bit daft really, but mine was a gift so I'm certainly going to use it. And when I'm really old and senile I'll still know my reg if I get stopped by the Rozzers, unlike some random set of numbers and letters.
