I'm not usually one for weight gain to make my day, but given I lost a stone in the seven days before today, I'll make an exception; I'm pretty much eating properly again. :)

On the opposite side of the coin me and the wife have been making a concerted effort to lose a bit of weight so been cutting out biscuits crisps booze during the week , snacking etc and neither of us take sugar any more.. been doing pretty well but have plateaued somewhat .. but determined to keep at it...

The boys car insurance came through last week.  Same as last year.  £4k.  Absolutely ridiculous.  5 minutes on comparison sites brings a quote £3k cheaper with a reputable insurer.  Still a joke, but still...

Although measured against a low bar, today is the best I've felt since I got ill on New Year's Day.

Managed to do some "normal" things without having any crashes in energy or inclination: a day's proper work online, an hour walking the dog through the snow and ice (mostly ice now), picking up the little 'un etc.

Just need a morning where I don't wake up with a coughing fit and then I'll feel I'm almost over this. :)

Traffic Cops on C5 tonight.
Plenty of action close to me tonight, chasing a van round Whittington which then crashed on Tesco roundabout. A car was pulled up outside Brimington cemetery, where my sister's buried and just over the road from where she lived and just up the road from me. Half expected to see me ride by.
Then scrotes on motorbikes riding up Clowne Greenway where I go riding my gravel bike, but not at nigth.

Off to a Burns night in Glasgow tonight and a phased retirement day tomorrow..then off to Arran on Saturday on the new ferry for the day..

The young 'un being presented with an award at a school assembly this morning - apparently her reading age is three years ahead of expectations; I don't mind taking some of the credit for that. ;)

Take all the credit you can while you can.

New carpet fitted in the dining room and lounge earlier today. The carpet was so heavy (right through both rooms) I had to help the 2 fitters get it into the area. I've managed to get most things back in and reinstalled all my TV stuff (took 5 hours or so) - still to get my hifi setup yet. I counted 14 things plugged in behind the TV  :o  :-[  I'm glad to not have to go through all that again for a long, long time and thankfully it stayed dry today so we could dump all the waste outside without it getting soaked.

Mrs S wants new flooring. I don't. I just don't want the hassle of uncoupling all the TV and HiFi bits. The carpet's only 30 years old, I'm sure it'll do another 25...

We are in desperate need of new carpets but until or 2 elderly cats stop shitting and vomiting on them the wallets not opening. Also on the watch list are two young magpies who last year entered through the patio doors and ripped holes in the carpet looking for food.

In the whole of January so far, I've had six pints of - got to say - quality ale.

All of which were this evening.

It think that means I'm possibly getting better... :)

We only have carpets on the stairs, the rest of the house is laminate flooring - except for the kitchen, which has some sort of high-tech industrial tiling that 'er indoors wanted. Very practical.

Hifi and surround system back up and running  ;D  But, my knees are fucked after all the crawling around. So is my back (again)- I took everything upstairs before the carpet fit and this new amp weighs a ton; I had to be so careful coming back down that my posture was awful. Hopefully back to normal after a few days rest, and some pain killers  :(
