Mickey 17 - Blimey this is a rather weird movie. It wants to be a comedy at the beginning then drifts in to political satire a bit too much at the end. All that mixed in with sci-fi, aliens and action. I did enjoy it though and Robert Pattinson is superb (as is most of the acting here) and I suppose one expects something a bit odd from Bong Joon Ho (Parasite, Snowpiercer). 7/10

The bluray of Where Eagles Dare has just landed on our doormat, so that is tonight's entertainment sorted. A mere £3.99 from Amazon delivered.

Inspired by watching some Richard Burton docs/chats last night and some reviews and behind the scenes of "Mr. Burton" which it doesn't look like I will be able to get to see in the cinema.

We've seen it quite a few times before but it is a perennial favourite here.

I've watched all 3 'Season 1' feature films which kick off Jack Irish, and 2 of the episodes of the 1st series proper.

Really enjoying this.

Caught up with episode 2 of the new Doctor Who late last night, and this was more up my street. Not without flaws but generally much better than a lot of the current crop.

Hmm . . . very much a poor man's Die Hard.

Surprised to see that this was helmed by none other than industry veteran Martin Campbell. Admittedly he hasn't done that much in recent years.

Nice to see Howard Charles get a little screen space in a feature film and Daisy Ridley is pretty good in her part.

Entertaining in parts, but with a surprisingly limp ending. As for the villains? Well they are bang up to date with their motives, but Hans Gruber and gang they most certainly are not.

Midnight Movie Club:

Lamb

This 2021 Icelandic oddity and debut feature from Vladimar Johannsson gained plenty of glowing notices on release and mostly lives up to the hype.

An increasingly estranged couple working on a remote farm deliver a sheep-human hybrid which they decide to adopt; there's a bit more to it than that of course, but I'm loathe to spoil anything.

This is generally regarded as a "horror", and while it certainly has those elements, it's more of a dark, surreal drama - or if you want get deep, a tragi-comic, allegorical meditation.

All that said, it does have its minor flaws and is one of those films I admired more than I enjoyed - still, I'm very interested to see what comes next from Johannsson, who has announced himself as a major talent with this intriguingly strange film.
