The Agency with Michael Fassbender. Like it, Richard Gere is a bt over the top, but not very prominent, Fassbender, well very Fassbender: excpet for the human touch here and there he fells very controlled, with one obvious flaw.
Gritty shots, diffuse scenes, London and rain, what's not to like?

The Electric State - loosely based on the excellent graphic book The Electric State by Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag. I quite enjoyed this film, but something never felt right from the beginning. After chatting to my wife afterwards we both agreed that it was Millie Bobby Brown that's the issue. She simply can't act. Chris Pratt has lots of charisma and played his part pretty much like that in Guardians of the Galaxy and is great to watch. The effects and all the robots are brilliant and one forgets that most of this is CGI and when that happens (like in Paddington the movie), everything becomes natural and the norm. The story ticked along at a pleasant pace but sagged half way through before a quite brilliant, action-packed finale. The TV series Tales from the Loop (also based on the book by Simon Stålenhag) is far, far better than this Hollywood effort, but worth a watch to kill a couple of hours - just try to ignore  Millie Bobby Brown 6.5/10

I've just watched the first 2 episodes of Adolescence. It's impressive that each episode is shot in one take. But even more impressive when I read this:

So how did they film in one take? Well Netflix has just shared a bunch of details. Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter) on 15 March, the streamer revealed they planned to film each episode at least 10 times, with one take being shot in the morning and the next in the afternoon. This process was to happen over five days, but inevitably not everything always goes to plan and there were some episodes where they ended up abandoning takes and doing more than the planned 10.

They then shared which take ended up as the final episode we saw on Netflix:

Episode 1 - Take 2 - was shot on shoot day 1 of 5
Episode 2 - Take 13 - was shot on shoot day 5 of 5
Episode 3 - Take 11 - was shot on shoot day 5 of 5
Episode 4 - Take 16 - was shot on shoot day 5 of 5

Netflix then went onto reveal how the cast prepared for each episode, explaining: "In preparation for the shoot, segments of the script were rehearsed and a little bit more added each day – starting with five minutes on the first day and then adding further material as they went through, so by the end of the week they would be doing full run-throughs."

If the cast forgot or messed up a line they would either carry on with the mistake or if it was too big to ignore they would then reset and abandon the take.

During their rehearsals the cast and crew would work out how to move around each other, with Netflix adding: "Sometimes it was necessary for some of the crew to remain in shot, in these instances they were dressed in costume so that they could blend into the show to serve as extras in the shot."

As for that drone shot at the end of episode two? Well turns out they attached the camera to a drone as they were following Jade (Fatima Bojang) out of the school and the camera flew 0.3 miles to where Eddie (Stephen Graham) was placing the flowers and caught by a separate camera crew who "smoothly catch the camera and transition into a close shot of Stephen Graham."

I did see some the filming shots on the One Show and the camera guys were amazing the way they moved the equipment around, passing cameras onto jigs and to other cameramen, even drones.  A very good TV drama too.

The Fall Guy

Director and former stunt man David Leitch teams up with leads Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt for this feature adaptation of the fondly remembered series.

There's a fair bit to like here: the freewheeling first hour sets out its stall with an amiable series of gags that occasionally steer right into meta territory, while the tighter second half of course showcases a stream of stunt set-pieces, driven on by a forgivably paper-thin plot.

It also serves as a homage and love letter to the CGI-free actioners from back in the day and overall makes for a solidly entertaining Friday night in.

I'm 4 episodes into season 2 of the brilliant Severance (I'll always wait for a show to be fully released before starting). I absolutely love shows like this - weird, mysterious and gripping. The acting is sublime, notably John Torturro. Just superb TV.

Finished Severance se02 last night. An easy 10/10 for me - I loved it.
