Well - it's definitely there and I can't think what else it could be. Interestingly it's not on the GUP Tour live recording that came out in the noughties, I don't know if it's a different performance or an edit.

I'm quite pleased to have heard this. Only my second Rush glitch? in decades of listening, mostly on equipment of questionable quality. The Show Don't Tell moment still makes me wonder.

So supposedly the YouTube video with the "thank-you" and the GUP tour CD from the noughties are from the same night in Toronto. That means, I think, that The Weapon on the latter is edited. I think I'll nerd out over waveforms in Audacity over the weekend.

Thank you. That makes me happier than it should. Responsibly shifted wise.

Oh that is cleverly done, the Slick-nic Wasp at work

OK so I synced up the GUP tour CD audio The Weapon and the YouTube The Weapon. They start to diverge quite quickly; the Count Floyd nonsense on the YouTube clip goes on quite a bit longer.

So the bit where the Count says "dig those drums!" happens about 27 seconds after he says "even the title scares me .." on the CD audio, whereas on the YouTube audio, it's about 47 seconds later. So very roughly 20 seconds of Count Floyd was removed for the GUP tour CD it seems. Going to sync them up again at a later point and see what happens.

There are 13 documented ROIOs for the 21st September show. Should be possible to find out what actually was played and what was left out of the recording.

The answer to this is pretty simple, I think. There are a couple of edits, but - the vocal track seems to have been redone in the studio for the CD, but not for the YouTube clip.

Where Geddy sings "are a weapon to be used against him" on YouTube, on the CD audio he sings "are a weapon to be used against us".

There's also an edit in the guitar solo that was very hard to pin down, it's quite a dense recording. I think that might have been redone as well, at least in part. But there are a few artistic "oh!" and"oh-oh!" and "hey!" and even a "ba ba ba ba!" in the vocal track on YouTube that aren't on the GUP Tour CD. The vocal was either selectively or completely re-recorded, and at a minimum some of the live vocal track was mixed out, including the "thank-you!".

Slim

For sure there's at least one further edit in the GUP tour CD audio because it's actually a bit extended, compared to the YouTube audio. I think there were a lot of studio shennanigans on this one.
