Image Resizing App

I used an image resizing (downsizing) app for posting images here while on holiday, but looking closer at the results on a desktop PC, I'm a bit disappointed. For example, the first image is an image resized on the phone app:

Whereas this next one is the same source image, but resized using The GIMP (a free desktop image editor). Same image format (JPEG), very nearly the same size. But much less rough; look at the straight lines on the column nearest the camera.

How about doing this inversed? Our National "Rijksmuseum" is restoring the Nightwatch, the Rembrandt painting quite well known. One of the things they did, while they had it off anyway, is create an image so large you can zoom in unti you see brush strokes.

This is the largest and most detailed photograph ever taken of a work of art. It is 717 gigapixels, or 717,000,000,000 pixels.

The distance between two pixels is 5 micrometers (0.005 millimeters), meaning that one pixel is smaller than a human red blood cell.

To create this image, 8,439 individual photographs measuring 5.5 cm x 4.1 cm were taken using a 100-megapixel Hasselblad H6D 400 MS camera. These were then stitched together using artificial intelligence to create a single large image, resulting in a file size of 5.6 terabytes.
