Perplexity

I am ignorant when it comes to AI. Sure, it can generate funny images and helps you write up texts you need. But other than that?

So the other day a colleague in Data management in our company pointed me toward Perplexity, and AI that culls from different sources. What I get when searching on what it actually is and how it compares to the well known ChatGPT:
In comparison to ChatGPT, Perplexity AI focuses more on retrieving factual and citation-backed information, making it a better option for research. While it is highly reliable in delivering accurate data, it lacks ChatGPT's conversational depth and context retention.

Intrigiung. Now how is this relevant or interesting for me? Well, as it turns out the provider I use os offering up a year subscription, for free. Normally this is 229EUR/year.

So, I'm going to try this out, not tonight, but when I have time to digest it. Curious!

I have created an account, and started with some simple questions. Mainly these have to do with the public sources available in relation to my father past. Interestingly enough, it produced some scnas of documents for my grandfather right away. I would have never even known where to look for these, so this is an example of how easy and helpful it is. It saves time, seems very reliable and points toward direct results. It does not let me plough through a forest of information rather points me toward the correct documents.

Interesting. Maybe I'll dig a little deeper.

I quite like it so far. I have used for a small number of somewhat deeper dives. I mentioned my family history, it has helped me push to territory I wouldn't think of myself, I have asked help in finding and narrowing down a new drumkit, being very specific when it comes to budget, sizes of drums, types of wood etc. I ahev also asked some questions about my current condition, still having the foot injury.

But the one I am looking forward to most is trying to build up a profile for myself. I noticed it is very tailored to the USA market, so I will gradually built a profile by feeding it nformtion on my likes and dislikes, carefully formulating that I do not want to build a bubble, so that when I want to see world news, music news, spports news, or any type of local news I get trapped in the circle of same info. Jusrt curious how this will work work.
Some thought experiments perhaps to see if it comes around to my way of seeing things and thinking in general.
In short: a little more than just a question and answer machine.
