There was a time when online TV was a sort of low-quality novelty. There's no doubt now of course that the Internet is more than capable of handling very high quality high-definition telly, so I think this does make sense. It's not that long since all UK broadcasters went digital-only and this seems a logical next step.

Even so - couldn't have imagined a BBC with no TV transmissions twenty years ago.

Freely will be the way forward. As of now it's only available on certain TV brands. But it will become the norm once apps for phones/FireTV/Roku/AppleTv etc. have been released.

Can't help thinking about all those dystopian movies I've seen where some for of legacy/obsolete tech saves the day. With all the hacking and other attacks on the internet structure going on, surely a TV cable or radio frequency FM/AM would be needed as backup for emergency purposes?
