This is one from Wednesday, I was out on a bike and listening to 5 Live. (Whispering) Bob Harris was the guest on Matt Chorley's politics show.

Commendably, Bob kept his own political leanings to himself. He had a kind word for people on different bits of the political spectrum.

Bob presents Sounds of the Seventies on Radio 2. But when Matt asked Bob what he liked most about the '70s - Bob mentioned only American music. Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, The Eagles and Bruce Springsteen.

To me, the '70s are defined to a far greater degree by British music. Floyd, Zeppelin, Elton, McCartney, The Who. These are the artists who propelled the popular culture of that time.

And yet the presenter of the supposedly British Broadcasting Corporation's 1970s music show had not the briefest word to say about any of them.

Think I've been affected, in a roundabout way. Tried to withdraw some funds from a savings account with FCE bank on Thursday, still not arrived in my linked account. At least they've contacted me via email. I'll expect to be given the commensurate interest for the 'missing' days at the least. Glad I've not got my current account with Barclays, although we don't live from hand to mouth like many seem to these days.

Bad luck, but should be relatively easy to clear up with some anti biotics.

Yep, was at the quack's this afternoon and he put me on amoxicillin.

Update: My ears were examined at Boots this morning by not one but two very professional and pleasant members of the medical staff and between them they confirmed that as well as the obvious that my ears are chock-full of gunk, my right ear drum is "retracted" and my left ear drum has a minor perforation.

A couple of days after my course of meds I have an appointment to remove the gunk and then it's just a matter of waiting 7-8 weeks for the ear drums to heal.

In the meantime, my ears and brain seem to be taking part in some sort of lucky dip of frequencies I can hear and these frequencies seem to "recalibrate" occasionally - but at least I can actually hear, so there's no reason to feel sorry for myself.

Thanks, Hass.  There's no other effects other than it's just blummin' annoying really.  I feel fine in myself.

Not really making me grumpy as such, but just to continue the saga of my ear infection: a couple of days ago, Hotel California was played on Greatest Hits and the plucked 12-string guitar intro sounded very slightly out of tune, perhaps by a flat microtone.

Later, Fast Car's signature acoustic melody sounded similarly weird and disconcerting.

Since then I've noticed this on other songs and it seems to be that I'm hearing a certain frequency, or narrow frequency range, very slightly flat.

Turns out this may be a case of diplacusis, a condition and word I'd never, erm, heard of until I looked it up this week. And it's almost certainly caused by all the compacted ear wax I have currently, which I'm due to have removed in a couple of days, thank goodness.

So you can chuck up in the back of a taxi, refuse to pay to clean it up, have your mate kick a window out, then because the taxi driver takes you to the Police station you think you're being kidnapped, which then leads you to believe you will be racially abused and raped by the Rozzers, all because you have been repeatedly told that the Met are Institutionally racist and because one bad egg raped and murdered Sarah Everard.

Sorry, that doesn't give you the right to be abusive. And even if every serving Plod in the Met is racist I doubt they'd have even thought she was from an ethnic minority.

Hope she and her mate have had to pay recompense to the Taxi Driver.

The first time I've ever experienced this. A plague of fruit flies in the kitchen. I'm guessing it all stems from a wizened old lime which had somehow rolled behind the microwave. The online advice is apple cider vinegar traps which to be fair are working to an extent but don't seem to be keeping up. I think this calls for a big bleach deep clean. Incidentally 500 ml of cider vinegar is £3.75 in Tesco and £1.65 in Aldi. What's going on?
