But honestly, a stage like that on the last Saturday, after 3 weeks?
The stage itself is as you say, bonkers, but this far into the Tour it feels like they don't want half the peloton to reach Paris.

Nickslikk2112

First job done for Carapaz.

Mads Pedersen on the rampage behind. He did say earlier in the week that he wants to win a proper mountain stage one day. This one's too proper though.

Nickslikk2112

Hats off to Mads Pedersen!

Almost guarantees the Green Jersey so long as he finishes the race

And that's the polka dot for ol' Richie

Nickslikk2112

And Pogi looks like he's trying to drop del Toro!

Nickslikk2112

Well, that was eventful in the end!

Sexasses team mates rode too strongly for him, Pogi shephereds del Toro in Sepp Kuss crashes himself out of a win and Carapaz adds a stage win to his Polka Dots.

And now a shortened final stage due to wild fires.

Thenop

More Richie, more upset Remco, he started his chase too late, more happy Pogi and Del Toro.

Even Martinez strong, it feels like he can do more but somehow misses support.

Biggest disappointment for Kuss, although escaping narrow death could be considered a win..

Perfectly positioned safety nets...

Pity for Paul, Del Toro is and will be a significant adversary. What a mad stage, 5000m of climbing, takes me 3 months to do that.

Nickslikk2112

Just seen that Kuss has been docked 60s and 50 UCI points, looked it up and it's for littering twice outside litter zones. Also a 1000 CHF fine. Knowing the UCI it'll be because things fell out of his pocket when he crashed!

Move to Derbyshire, takes me about six days :)

Here we go.
Just heard for the first time in history there is no stage win for 3 traditional cycling nations: France, Italy and Spain.

When I look at the jersey winners this year it is clear that the traditional countries no longer dominate:
Slovenia, Ecuador, Denmark and Mexico.

Nickslikk2112

That was some finish!

Was hoping Pogi could win in yellow, not to be, but good day for MvdP just holding on. Mads Pedersen up there for third.

MvdP completely spent.

Thenop

What a final!! Unbelievable MvdP with Pogi doing lead out, these men are not human.
Philipsen waited for MvdP to win, if Pedersen would have overtaken him, then Philipsen would have taken it.

Wow, what a race, edge of the seat stuff.

And in winning the Green Jersey, Mads has only managed two top five stage finishes,he was monstering the intermediate sprints.
