Incredible sprint from Philipsen. He was positioned all wrong but he managed to wurm his way past Viviani, who did not keep the door closed, and overtook him.

Good third place for your man Vernon.

Dull stage indeed. We need more mountains.

Angry Lou. Mad Mountain.

And I forgot to say, that today was the first Vuelta stage in Spanish speaking Spain!

So, Viviani and Cockhard got relegated in the sprint for infringements. Viviani might as well give up now, he's 36 and out of contract at the end of the year.

Nickslikk2112

Didn't see that one coming, even with tomorrow being a rest day.
Didn't expect Pidcock to do so well either, he can normally be dropped on the steeper bits where Vingegaard attacked.

Mountains mean fun.

Thenop

Wanted to stretch his legs I suppose. Just test himself and give the others something to think about during the rest day. Especially Ciccone who will be crushed. To be honest hen was crushed...

Good day for your boy Pidcock indeed.
Curious was that VLB lead the group that brought the red jersey in..only explanation would be they did not want it yet themselves.

That was the conclusion of our TV "Experts"

They think the same scenario may play out on Tuesday.

They can call me anytime. I am open for offers.

Good win for Arnaud de Lie in the Bretagne Classic today. Didn't realise he was in it until the last 200m! He's reallu coming back to form.

Second stage win for Jay Vine and his fifth ever in the Vuelta. Cements his grip on the KOM jersey.

Vingegaard is back in Red.

Mountains make better racing - that's why I've not yet watched the Tour of Britain, the KoM there was 1km @ 0.8!

If Pidcock can cope with the likes of Angliru he's a chance of finishing on the podium - providing he can Time Trial as well...

Thenop

Better racing indeed. I looked very closely and maybe saw one drop of sweat on Vingegaard's forehead. While Almeida gave it his all, Vingegaard never even got out of his saddle.
Ayuso did 2 mins of work, gone at the end of the year. UAE is no team.

Good win for Vine though, I feel he can win even more this Vuelta!

Olav Kooij won the opening stage of the Tour of Britain. Adding to the four he won two years ago.

Thenop

No stage winner on the Vuelta today - the finish has been cleared of protestors.
Time will be taken at the foot of the climb.

That's my support for Gaza gone. Bloody Basques.

Pidcock into a podium position.
