Black Phone 2 - A sequel to the very good The Black Phone. This new one isn't very good; in fact it's pretty dire. Which is a shame as you can tell the effort that was put into it. The main problem is that the first movie concluded with a satisfactory outcome. This follow up isn't needed at all, it's just there for the sake of it and the production put into this could have been better spent on something new and better. Good: the acting, setting, some effects at the the end were excellent, music. Bad: everything else - story, script, lack of thrills/horror. Ethan Hawke is in this too, though from his mask/make-up it could have been anyone - what a waste. 3/10

Been watching a new series of Maigret on Prime and it's weird. It is set in Paris, the division that is handling cases is Le Crim but the cast is all British. So, here we are in the heart of Paris and everyone is speaking English except for the occasional local actor that sound like they ran off from the cast of Allo Allo.

Been watching Blind Sherlock, Dutch 6 episode series. It is terrible on every way: writing, acting, plot but it is set in Rotterdam, my hometown so it's watching the scenery mostly.

The worst are the accents some actors use, they are so over the top you'd think they are doing a stand up act.

Just finished the reboot of Lynley. Quite enjoyable. Hopefully there will be more to come.

Mid-way through the first series (again) of Dinner Ladies. Victoria Wood - such a great loss.

Also just started on Banjo & Ro's Grand Island Hotel. Definitely the kind of thing Sian is in to!

The Phoenician Scheme

A Wes Anderson film that has his signature sideways black humour, snappy dialogue, starry ensemble cast and outstanding technical craft.

The opening pre-credits sequence is classic Anderson, however it's also the best part of the film and the subsequent 90 minutes or so doesn't quite live up to it.

So while this isn't in the same league as Anderson's excellent The Grand Budapest Hotel, it's still a decent enough example of his undoubted talent.
