There's been a lot of hype about this horror/thriller, the first studio feature by YouTube content creator Curry Barker, not least because it's become the highest-grossing film in cinema history (box office approaching $500 million) for a production with a sub-$1 million budget (amongst other records).

So, does it live up to that billing?  The answer is firmly in the affirmative: this is a cracking yarn once it really gets going, with finely-tuned moments of occasional pitch-black humour amongst its genuinely unsettling narrative.

A major element of the film's success is an absolutely revelatory, must-see performance from Inde Navarrette, the likes of which I haven't seen in a long time; it's tempting to lavishly praise it in effusive detail, but I'll settle for strongly recommending this film for her remarkable talent alone.

Thanks for the recommendation. I had noticed the rather high IMDb review scores for this one and so it was on my radar.

The other 'cheap' movie getting decent reviews is Backrooms. Also Iron Lung which I've posted about in this thread.

Seems these budget films, made with heart and a lot less money, are showing the big studios a thing or 2 about how to make a good film.

Yes I'm certainly going to catch Backrooms in the cinema very soon; has Lynchian vibes apparently, which of course is right up my street.
