I'm about to buy a new phone. One attractive option is 20g heavier than the phone I usually carry. I'm really anal about the weight of things I take on a long (200+km) ride, so a bit reluctant to increase the weight of my phone.

However: I had a longish chat with ChatGPT about this and it turns out, if it's correct about the physics, that even over a 300 km ride with typical elevation, the extra effort you expend by carrying an extra 20g is roughly the same as pedalling for another four seconds.

I've been known to weigh different brands of AA battery, perhaps I should have a rethink.

Assuming you take water with you, this is 20ml. You can down that pretty quick and justify the 20gr extra phone weight.

Oh, and don't you start a spreadsheet calculation on how many seconds in total that will cost you each year.
(Yes, I did just plant that idea in your head).
