David Coverdale now really packs up

Yes I know, there are a lot of us out there thinking he should have stiopped earier etc. but it's really not up to us now is it? Besides, I have been following him a little here and there and the man has really kept imself busy safeguarding his musical legacy, collecting his every recording, and preserving it for posterity. I don't see many artists taking that level of care into their work, so I think he deserves credit there.

For me really, apart from the 70s materials some of which is ace, the 2 big ones in the 80s were fantastic. They came just at the right time, he struck gold with the videos and the band.

Anyway, thanks for the music and fun times Mr. Coverdale.

He was a great singer in his day. And like Paul Rodgers, with whom he shares a certain musical heritage, from Teesside. Although you wouldn't know it from his accent. Actually I think you can hear a hint of it.

The Coverdale / Hughes version of Purple was always my favourite.

I love the fact that Ritchie Blackmore doesn't make it into any of those old band photos.

They're quite friendly these days, by all accounts.  Many recent interviews with Coverdale have him emphasising how grateful he is to Ritchie for his start and how regretful he is of things that were said in the past.  They have met for drinks I think in more recent times.  Quite nice to hear.

Coverdale has definitely tried to mend brunches with previous members...

That's curious because there are photos of him in bands no-one's heard of, loads of Whitesnake photos, but there's only one Purple photo and that one has Tommy Bolin in it. It can't be a coincidence.

My coming of age into rock music was the '80s so I'll always think 1987 was their best album - a lot of great memories tied up in that one, and there's nary a duff track on it; John Sykes' performance is an arena rock masterclass and the richness of the 80s production captures every facet of Coverdale's voice.

But what a great career and body of work - fair play to the man.

Saw them with Moody and saw them with Sykes, both great bands. Coverdale's vocals and showmanship were excellent, plus his amazing talent at innuendos.

My other favourite record of his is the Coverdale/Page album; does what it says on the tin and delivers - and then some.

I wore the cassette out of that one!
