Yes it looked like Alex was blaming the tuning keys, or one of them. But he was definitely getting the right notes out of the fret positions he was playing.

Reminded me of David Beckham blaming a bobble on the pitch for a missed penalty.

Well it didn't take a lot of analysis .. this image was captured a few moments after he starts experimenting with note choices that would be considered courageous in avant garde jazz.

None of the strings are broken. I played the same notes (same fret positions) as Alex did during this unusual phase of the solo on a properly tuned guitar, and the same pitches came out. I'm forced to conclude that it's not the guitar.

Yes, I'm minded to agree, as much as I find it inconceivable he could mess it up.

For one thing, I don't believe there's a C note (B string 13th fret) anywhere in the solo as it's supposed to be played, whereas that image suggests he's using it.

That's interesting and slightly worrying. I think I'll have another look at the Chris Shiflett YouTube interview with Alex where he does a detailed breakdown and description of the solo.
