Last night I had a dream unlike any I remember having, both in content and tone:

I'm on a single-decker bus in an anonymous city, carrying a clipboard and the famous red book from This Is Your Life.  I'm actually on my way to surprise former host Michael Aspel in just the way he did to many celebrities in real life.

I hop off outside a Farm Foods store and dash in, finding him immediately.

Then, the dream feels more lucid, and it feels like that I can choose, for a laugh, to announce the surprise to Michael Aspel while doing an impression of his Irish predecessor, Eamonn Andrews:

"Michael Aspel!  You taught (sic) you had just come ouoot on a simple shooorping trip but tenooiiintt...This Is Your Looiife!!"

As he's about to respond, the dream ends.

I'm at a Jerry Paper gig, except that it's in something like a primary school classroom, with people sitting round big tables. As Jerry sings, I'm gift-wrapping one of his CDs for a friend. He strolls over to the table. I explain that I'm sending a copy of his latest CD as a gift. And when I say "copy", I explain, I mean an original copy.

He strolls off down the corridor to the loo.

Probably inspired by my playing one of his tunes, Greedy Motherfuckers at a DJ set last night. I dedicated it to Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson.

I dreamed that I went to see Mamas Gun at a small venue. Eric Clapton was deputising on guitar.

I'm in the final year of a Computer Science degree course, in a small tutorial room with fellow students arranged at desks around the walls, with screens in front of them. Nigel Farage is present, he's one of the lecturers. There's a large whiteboard, and I'm supposed to be giving an introduction to the Lambda calculus to my fellow students.

But why can't you do it, Nigel? Also, why am I doing a Computer Science degree when I've already got one?

Two music dreams over two nights. Highly unusual for me which I find surprising.

I'm standing a few feet back from the sales counter of a grubby music store. Angus Young is with an assistant at the counter. Angus is in his early thirties. He's buying a pearlescent white Gibson SG which I find absolutely gorgeous. He asks the price and he's told "as it's him" £685. I decide I'd also like one and decide to buy. My price is just over £1000 which doesn't upset me.

I'm at the long awaited Rush concert, stuck way over at the right hand wall with a fairly restricted view. The band start to play but it's not a Rush song which I decide must be to rest Geddy's voice for later. I remembered the song when I awoke but forget it now. Halfway through the song it's no longer Geddy, but a woman I used to work with called Nancy. Weird.

Lots of work related dreams recently. Why? Don't miss it and try to think of it as little as possible. Theme last night was just about to sit professional exams having done no studying.

I have work-related dreams almost every night. Nearly as frequent are those that are school-related. I probably need therapy   :-\

I had a work-related dream myself, last night.

I was at Rolls-Royce and Associates, which in real life was my first graduate job, and I got promoted to manager. It was the usual career trajectory, and if I'd stayed there long enough I assume it would have happened eventually. I don't remember much of the detail. I was in an office. I think there was a "manager" name badge, hilariously.

There was another career path where you went up the "technical route" and became a 'principal' instead of a manager. I think it was a way of affording status and money to technical people who didn't want to manage people, but the company wanted to hang on to. But that was much rarer. Despite being far more suited, in temperament and personality to the technical side I'd already been made a section leader by the time I left.

Woke up feeling nostalgic and melancholy. I often wonder how things would have panned out if I'd just stayed there, though I've never once wished that I had.

I also dreamed that special versions of the World Cup trophy had been made for every participating nation, the England one was white. But someone had stolen it.
