I hadn't heard of Bloodrock so I looked them up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodrock

They'd released their sixth album two months earlier but had just been dropped by their record label. They played their last gig two nights later in Michigan.

This was their biggest hit, more than a faint smell of Spinal Tap about this one:

Appears to have been a hit this one, no idea how though clocking in a 8 minutes. I like it though, very much a thing of its time. I know it's not very good, but that doesn't stop me from liking it :-)
Has a distinct Sabbath vibe, the way the song is built up, what it deals about. Prefer Sabbath, but it's a nice change.

Well I somewhat dropped the ball on this thread! But most notably, 50 years ago on July 29th, Geddy's birthday, a certain N Peart auditions and joins the band. On August 14th, the band open for Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann.

Fifty years ago tonight, they're playing a gig in Mansfield (the Pennsylvania version).

50 years ago today on December 27th 1974, the band enter Toronto Sound Studios on Overlea Boulevard to commence the recording of Fly By Night.

Fifty years ago tonight - Rush play their first headline gig at Massey Hall, Toronto. This is a very good audience recording.

Geddy refers to Fly By Night as "the new album" several times, but they visit Toronto Sound two days later to start recording Caress of Steel. I think the live photos in the artwork were taken at this gig.

So it turns out that the band played Massey Hall again on Jan 10th 1976, as recorded for posterity below:

Judging by the tour dates, they start recording 2112 at about this time: there's a gap in the live shows from this gig until February 9th.

I had a chuckle the other day about 2112. There was an article about Rangers FC being liquidated in 2012, and the fact that Celtic fans would probably still be taunting them about this in 2112. It was very obvious the writer saw no significance in the date that means so much to many others.

Fifty years ago tonight - the band play the first of three consecutive nights at Massey Hall, Toronto to be recorded for a live album, subsequently released as All the World's a Stage.

I haven't listened to the whole thing for years. It used to be a teenage ritual, so I'll relive that tonight.
