Gazza caned it far more than he did and was still a vastly superior footballer.

England have had nobody approaching Gascoigne's ability since - and at least he showed what he can do amongst the best in the world, whereas the likes of Rooney disappeared when up against cannier opposition.

Unfortunately more injuries, Frenkie de Jong (Barca) and Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta) are injured and won't play. Ian Maatsen (Borussia Dortmund) has been called in.

Interesting that Cruyff is Cruijff and Feyenoord isn't Feijenoord. Is that because they officially changed their name and would it never be Cruyff in his homeland?

Cruijff is a family name, it's not changed because of that.

Feyenoord changed it's name officially in 1971 (from Feijenoord) for the reason you assume: it's more international.

I have become increasingly fascinated by languages recently. At school it was Latin, French and Ancient Greek so anything which stemmed from another source was a mystery. I didn't have the luxury of an inquisitive mind in my teens as I had a lot to deal with domestically and that's probably enough about that. But the wonderful complex method of verbal human communication which exists just across the North Sea is a treasure I have missed out on. I need to buy some books.
