Actually looked like Konsa had left his man and Spence had no choice but to cover. Panic after the goal caused a few England players to completely lose their heads. Bellingham cannot now afford to lose his temper again. Rashford should also be on a yellow.

Aaaw, no penalty for England! Looked like the keeper had Kane's ankles but no, on replay, I think Kane instinctively went to ground. If DR Congo win by one it will be debated endlessly.

As per normal, if we compete we have around 18 million team managers in this country and each of them (myself included) has the winning strategy and selection in mind.

Yesterdays 2-1 win over Norway only strenghtens that belief.

I feel sorry for all of you, and all of the other countries, but the 2026 cup will be lifted first by Virgil.

Can you imagine the French players being so inconsistent with the levels of their application as England's?

Can you imagine their most prized and potent asset being more interested in trying to con the referee for 75 minutes rather than making himself a serious goal threat?  Olise letting the sort of petulance Bellingham too often shows detrimentally affect his game?  One of their central midfielders with ball retention as awful as Anderson's was today?  Dembele or Doue's end product as non-existent as Madueke's and Rashford's?  Nope!

What's easy to imagine though is all those players cutting through a defence that includes a player who last season was embarrassingly poor against a National League North side.

But, of course, that's getting ahead of ourselves.  After 3 out of 4 games in nicely air-conditioned stadia struggling and huffing-and-puffing against mediocre opposition for the vast majority of the time, I'm not exactly holding high expectations for when England play in high humidity and at high altitude with 80K+ ultra-partisan fans roaring every kick of the opposition.

Mexico will be a very tough opponent. Extremely good record at home helped by the relative high altitude of the stadium and fervent home support. England win that game they will have to have played very well
