Well .. I knew he only had a few months left when he retired at the end of October, but sad news nonetheless. He did sound very tired when I listened to his last show.

I remember the days when he presented the new chart on Radio 1, and I used to listen in on the school playing field on my little blue transistor radio. Seems a very long time ago now.  Come to think of it, it is more than 50 years ago. I think it was 1972 or something.

That's very sad. A great presenter with the kind of voice you could listen to for hours on end. I remember his chart show days fondly and it is quite shocking how long ago they were. Too easy to become quite melancholy this time of year RIP, Johnnie.

RIP Johnnie.

Think the last thing I heard on Radio 2 was the end of his last show.

We enjoyed the way he whistled as he spoke and my wife used to crack me up with a great impersonation.
RIP Johnnie

The word "Legendary" is bandied about too freely nowadays but he genuinely was; a consummate broadcaster. RIP.
