Well, sadly I'm revisiting this thread to bring the news my mum passed away yesterday afternoon in her care home.  She was 86, the last few years of her life spent with progressive vascular dementia. So, while this of course wasn't unexpected and was long planned-for, still the grief and sadness of the family and our close friends is undiminished.

I'm particularly profoundly thankful for the care she received by the magnificent staff throughout her stay; as she was being taken out of the home yesterday, followed by my two older brothers and I, they lined the corridor and exit, in a sort of silent guard of honour...one of the most profoundly moving gestures of compassion and respect toward my family I've ever experienced and a source of great comfort.

Just going to keep busy over the next couple of weeks now until the funeral; she'd have told me not to stew in misery and get off my behind and get things done, so that's what I'm doing.
