Oh wow .. that's very sad. Never saw him play but I had the Tygers album he was on and I well remember the first time I saw him with Lizzy, on Saturday Stayback.

Saw him with Whitesnake and Lizzy.

Travelled to the Cornwall Coliseum on the Slide it in tour. Got there early and watched the load in, lay on a grassy bank overlooking the sea, Cozy and John were covering Coverdale's Mercedes in swastikas made from gaffer tape. Whatever was going on it was a great gig nonetheless as I was down on the rail right in front of Sykes.

Sad news; his performance on 1987 is magnificent.

Saw him twice in a Lynott-less Lizzy and enjoyed very much..although he was too metal for Thin Lizzy.

Loved his work with Whitesnake..such a shame he never got to tour the 1987 record and a greater shame that he didn't really do anything of note after that.

I bought the Blue Murder record on release in 1989 and was really excited about it..but it did nothing for me.

Weirdly he supposedly auditioned for the Def Leppard job that was given to Vivian Campbell, who is undergoing cancer treatment at the minute.

Too young, real shame.

Sad news. I really like the Blue Murder album as well as his work in Whitesnake & Thin Lizzy. Shame he did nothing after that great run of albums.  Way too young

Sorry to say I think he wasted his career really. I was wowed when he first joined the Tygers because he was a really fluent, exciting rock player, a bit like Gary Moore. As Hass says he wasn't right for Lizzy although there are some great moments on that last Lizzy album. I never liked that version of Whitesnake.

I couldn't tell you what he's done in the last 35 years except for bit part appearances in post-Lizzy which was never more than a novelty, and that's a shame.

Did some great work for bigger bands but never quite got the recognition he deserved I feel. Blue Murder left me cold.
Gone too soon though even if he wasn't very active these later years.
