Predator: Badlands

I saw the latest instalment in the Predator franchise this afternoon at the Imax.

To my shame, I haven't seen either of the previous Dan Trachtenberg helmed instalments yet (Prey and Killer Of Killers), both of which are highly regarded I believe.

Anyhoo - this latest instalment is a romp and a half. Highly recommended.

It has been highly touted that this film is the story of a young Youtja called Dek who ends up on a hunt to prove himself and as you will see from the trailer(s) ends up joining forces with the top half of a synthetic human (yes, a Weyland-Yutani synth) played somewhat brilliantly by Elle Fanning (she has another role in the film too but I will say no more than that). I will say no more to avoid spoilers as there was more to this than I was expecting.

4.5 stars. Dropped 1/2 star due to the odd bit of SFX which didn't quite gel with me.

I went to the cinema yesterday to see The Running Man )2025 version) but when I arrived, saw that Predator : Badlands was showing at the same time. I was sorely tempted to watch this again but stuck to my guns.
