Sad news. One of those names that I think may really be familiar only to people of a certain age, but a very funny man in his time. The BBC was already planning to show a documentary celebrating his life on New Year's Eve. Would have been 100 years old in May.

Yep sad but never really got him at all..

Didn't know he'd come out as gay either..not that that matters a jot

Sad news. I'll stand corrected if wrong but he seemed to pave the way for the short sketch comedy shows which became very popular. I suppose a lot of people came to know him from the Parliamo Bird's Eye TV ads in the seventies. Yekanniwhakram etc.
My favourite was kudyegoabird'seyetattiefritter? A bit corny these days of X rated ads like the Irn Bru series. Always seems particularly sad when folk die just short of 100. I don't really know why. No telegrams these days.

Sad news, but I never really got him either - the stuff he did, while impressive at times, just wasn't funny.
