Are you a hoarder? Sorry to say I definitely am. In 1991 I saw an ad in one of the engineering trade mags that used to get passed around at Rolls-Royce, offering a free sample of cleaning material.
Free stuff? I'm in! But 34 years later I still have it, and I've never opened it.

It's actually a pretty useful free sample, intended to be used in warm water in a 2% solution. Asked ChatGPT about it just now. Gave it a pic of the list of ingredients on the back.

Nope, I like cleaning out. It has happened to me more than once I was looking for something I either chucked or gave away.
When I do give things away they usually mean something to me. That's what gives it value as a gift. Usually books from my collection.
I love keeping stuff :)

This weekend I managed to add: Two cycling caps (to add to the two I picked up in Glasgow), two Geraint Thomas masks, four cowbells, a pen and a keyring to my collection of random stuff :) Also kept the menu from where we ate to add to my menu collection.
You never know when random bits of tat might come in useful. Up in the loft I've got about 25 years worth of Kerrangs! Loads of Fortean Times, mouldering boxes of 2000ADs and every edition of Classic Rock and Prog magazines including freebie CDs.
I'm glad I hoarded my old computer mags. Those mid-80s adverts for computers and peripherals are gobsmacking now.

Still got half a room full of stuff from my mum and dad's house and the understairs cupboard is half full of my dad's miniature Whisky hoard, it might be worth something, but it would be nice to display - if we had the room.
I have to admit to hoarding too. Not a deliberate thing but sentimentality and "it'll come in useful" are always with me.
I have many toys from the 60s. Johnny Seven, Johnny Express, Johnny Speed, a robot, trucks, a crane (Triang). All quite collectible I'm sure, but I rarely set eyes on them. I've got a stack of Sounds and the brochures Soundcontrol used to post out. A stack of old job paperwork and technical books that just need to go. Football programmes, Soviet era enamel football badges and clothes I haven't ever worn or rarely wear taking up all my wardrobe space. Then there's the guitars and amps which should definitely be thinned down but I just can't bear to do it.
The weird thing is, as I get older I'm more into tidiness and order, so I need to make a start on the reduction of stuff.
Whenever I think I hang on to too many things I think back to a girlfriend I had in the 90s. I was stunned when we first visited her house and it was immediately apparent why we used to stay at her parents' house a few miles away. Her house had two rooms you literally couldn't enter. Stuff floor to ceiling. Everything she had ever bought or been given. She didn't see it as an issue then and I often wonder if it got worse in the years since.
