Former Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds has died in a motorcycle accident last night. 51 years of age, such sad news. The band and him parted ways not too longago, but he was instrumental in the sound of the band.
All the weird stuff on guitar, mainly the solo parts, and his singing voice were such a big part of this band that I was already wondering how they would try and sort tht, but now he is gone all of a sudden.
This performance of Toe to Toes wth Brent on guitar and vocals (the clean parts), I love this. Yes Mastodon is a metal band, but they were so much more mostly due to Brent.
It is a sad day.
Almost forgot he played on the Pike vs the Automaton record (High on Fire's main man Matt Pike's solo album form a couple of years ago).
here he is playing the drunk lead part in the videoclip. He is also the soloplayer in the song on banjo / slide.
Sad news. After all the great music they made together it is a shame they had a complete falling out and now this.
Man, that's a real shame - sad news indeed. :(
This was too funny to pass up, from a facebook post:
This man trolled me into watching an Alex Jones documentary. I'll never forget this story.
Circa 2007 I went to an autograph signing at Criminal records in Atlanta to meet one of my favorite bands, Coheed and Cambria. While waiting in line, someone comes in and yells out that Brent from Mastodon would be over at junkman's daughter passing out signed copies of his new EP. I had heard some of mastodon's music at this point, and really liked it, so I thought I'd go over and meet the man behind the strings. When we went over, he was just sitting nonchalantly in the place where you put your bags when you come in, passing out burned "CDs" with the handwritten label of "Endgame" scrawled on the top with sharpie. He boasted about how it was some "cutting edge shit, and the best solo work he'd ever done."
I thanked him and went on my ignorantly merry way.
When I put it in my car's CD player it wouldn't play, then upon further inspection I noticed it was actually a burned DVD. So I put it in my DVD player, only for it to play the Alex Jones documentary endgame, talking about the global elite and transhumanism. It was at this point I realized that I was trolled by the guitarist for Mastodon into watching an Alex Jones documentary. What a madman, and legend. He will be sorely missed.
Brent, not Alex Jones.
Screw that dude.
It took them a while, but this is how it is done, a proper tribute. And I see why it took them this long.
