For whatever reason I have this app on my iPhone. I'm fairly sure I didn't download it but whenever I have an issue with email and try to enter my password, this thing pops up and puts me into a going nowhere loop. I'd like to be rid of it as I need to buy a new iPad and dread the hours of stress involved in receiving mail in Outlook again, but I don't believe just deleting the app helps from what I have read and tried to understand. I know this is pretty basic stuff to many on here so any pointers would be great.
Have you setup anything to use 2 factor authentication such as email ..Amazon .. VPN to use with this app??
An authenticator (app) just adds an extra layer of security when logging on using Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). You choose to use 2FA or not. It basically generates a 6 digit code that changes every 30 seconds or so for you to enter after entering user/pass. I've never used any apple product so no idea why it's forcing you to use it. But I have about 20 logons that require a 2FA input. Is use an app called Authy, but the main Android one is Google Authenticator. But I chose those logons to use 2FA myself, which normally requires me to add that account manually - generated by the account itself with a QR code.
Sorry I can't help more but it seems like Apple has a way of doing things which maybe aren't standard. Someone 'apple-minded' may be able to help more. But remember 2FA is extremely important as an extra security step, particularly banking/money type accounts. So I use it for my bank/paypal/email/NAS etc.
Thank you guys. I don't remember how the app became installed. When my email recently required a password out of the blue, Authenticator kicked in and kept giving out time restricted codes which I tried to submit but nothing seemed to work. Then an hour or so later emails started arriving again. I'll plough on with a new iPad and hope for the best. I thought YouTube would help as I'm one of those folk that needs to be shown something before it sticks but there's a ton of comments on there from others who have similar issues to me. Can't wait to get off Android though. Drives me crazy although I hear so many good things about it.
