It's come to my attention (thanks Nop) that the majority of the site's bandwidth is being consumed by bots and spiders. While these aren't malicious they aren't particularly useful either, so from 8pm UK time this evening the forum will be configured to allow access to logged-in registered users only.
This shouldn't make a difference to regular visitors except for lurkers who don't have an account, if any exist. But an invitation to register will be displayed as well as a message that only registered members are allowed to view the site, and this can be done anonymously.
Comments / questions welcome.
I've opened the site to new registrations to allow lurkers to sign up. I'm approving registrations manually, but it's likely that some of these will be spam bots (already deleted one account this afternoon, in fact). So if you do see adverts for online pharmacies pop up, no worries I'll get round to deleting them when I can.
I'll turn off registration again in a few days, or possibly apply an esoteric sign-up question.

What's the first word on the second verse of the third song on the fourth Rush album?
Done now.
