<sigh>
Youtube really are getting incredibly annoying thrusting ads at you.
However I have noticed that if I search for Youtube videos through Microsoft Edge/Bing, then when I play them from the search results, there are no ads.
Huh?
Also tried this on Firefox, but you still get the ads.
Ah, just found this:
How to watch YouTube without ads
The trick to ad-free YouTube is based on a glitch in the Bing search engine. It works in almost every browser (we tested Chrome, Firefox and Edge) and on both PCs and phones.
All you have to do is copy the URL of the YouTube video you want to watch into the Bing search bar. If the video appears directly, click on the new link. If not, you may need to copy and paste the title of the video instead.
Well I've just tested that with some random videos - playing them on youtube where you get annoying ads, then copying the URL into Bing and playing the video from the search results. Hey Presto! No ads.
I guess the Youtube Goblins are hard at work trying to break this. They are certainly at war with ad-blockers.
I use a Firefox extension called uBlock Origin. I don't ever see YouTube ads.
That could be useful info for some Reg.
My son has YT Premium and we've been added to his account - all legit, he gets 5 users I think. It's worth it for him as he and his girlfriend use it a lot. I can't say I use it that much but it's nice to never get ads when I do and all YTs music as well.
Like Slim I also use UBlock Origin. Couple that with Pihole and I never see ads, anywhere. It can make browsing on a mobile phone a bit odd at times as where Ads should be instead is a blank space - still better than ads though.
