The album pre-order is CD only at the moment with release early next year.
So, you can pre order the cd and then you get early access for tickets. Right.
Also: Brussels tickets will be 42/45 Eur. Amsterdam 72 Eur? Very expensive for the venue he's playing which is a 5000 capacity standing room only.
Need a real hard think before I bite.
No Dublin date this time round and didn't get to see him last time he came so I may consider one of the UK dates or Europe perhaps

Conversely, when I played a lot and we released some cds, I had people asking me sign them. Always felt weird, I did it of course, but (and this is a real question) what is the attraction?

Big collector of signed prints...hang them on the wall, look at them and enjoy them every day really. Great investment as well.

Fortunately tickets left after the paracetamol kicked in late morning. Glasgow gig, second from back at very rear of the Concert Hall but end of row which I love.

Completely forgot about this one, noticed he has an annoucement now up for the tour. Thought I'd check the tickets to find out, I already bought them. In doing so, noticing he has not sold out yet, tickets readily available.

Heard the entire thing. Much more mellow than I anticipated. That sonic perspectives site must have heard a different album. It's a mix of all his solo work, and maybe early PT. But latter day PT, that intensity is not there.
Need to hear it more of course but first impression is good.
I've a digital copy but I'll await the Blu Ray/Vinyl before a full listen.

LP I listen to over the speakers, digital solely on headphones. So they sound vastly different anyway. It's not a contest for me though.

Digital sounds better than vinyl (very low bitrates aside) - but you can approximate that compromised vinyl sound by muffling it a bit if it's your thing, so you won't have to wait.
I bought Wilson's last album "The Harmony Codex" on blu ray for the multiple formats. Super album, I'm in the digital camp but what I find more of a challenge is what version do I enjoy the most? hi-res stereo, atmos, 5.1? I don't have some super high end stereo system just a Sonos system. Maybe I just don't have the time/lifespan to assess the answer, maybe it was better with just one version on vinyl. Looking forward to the new album tomorrow, for sure the production will be amazing.

It definitely sounds different, but it's objectively less accurate. In all seriousness you could probably get close to that sound with EQ and putting things in front of your speakers.
My lad and I went in to Preston city centre earlier for the Steven Wilson signing tour at Action Records. Quite a big turn out and we arrived at the back of a queue which built while we waited. A really slick operation by the staff though who had all the pre-orders ready to go. So I got the mint green LP signed for me and the Blu ray for my son and his fiancée. Steven came across really well and was happy to have a brief chat, just long enough but not too much to make it drag for others waiting. I just missed The Harmony Codex signing so was pleased to make it this time.

For a moment there I wanted to run up and stare at my speakers,hoping for a young SW to hoover over the record player. Alas, only on the cd and the download I think. Nice gimmick for sure.
I recall the 'hidden' tracks on cds in the 90s. I even have one or two Motorpsycho cds that have music preceding track 1, you have to hit the 'rewind' button on the cd player to get to it. Fun times.

As there's a few gaps in my SW back catalogue, I had a quick peek at the setlist from last night. A wee bit of swotting up required but not a huge amount.
There have been discussions on the site previously about musicians writing poorer quality material as they grow older and run out of ideas and inspiration. I think The Overview reverses that theory entirely. It's a work of art.
Mr. Wilson has just dropped a full live album on his headphone dust website to purchase for all. He has done it all: hi res, mkv, a binaural mix, a 5.1 plus a digital booklet.
I purchased it, it is your currency 18,99 so not cheap and it'll be an exclusive to the website with no physical release planned.

I'd love to dip my toe in the water with different formats but it all seems a bit daunting. My music delivery at present is a humble cd player, decent speakers, or streaming (just the free Spotify stuff) through Sonos speakers and a Sonos beam for TV. Is there a simple way into this which is relatively inexpensive to begin with? I don't mind splashing out later if I discover I'm missing something great.

In a new interview with Jonathan Cornell of Immersive Audio Album, six-time-Grammy Award-nominated musician, songwriter and producer Steven Wilson spoke about his upcoming follow-up to last year's "The Overview" album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Yeah, it's almost finished, actually. It's a very strange record. It's a complete opposite of 'The Overview', which was a very lush, very big record and also about a very large — well, the largest possible subject matter you can imagine, literally the cosmos as we know it. This is a much more insular record. It's still very conceptual. It's still very experimental and the pieces are — well, it feels like another single piece of music to me, in that sense. But it's much more angular and experimental in a way that I'm really excited about. And that's all I can really say at the moment. Very different again, yeah."
Wilson, who is well known for his remixing work, which he began in 2009 as a sideline to his very successful career as a musician and producer, also talked about his production approach on the upcoming LP. He said: "The way I make records is, by definition, pretty layered. I love the possibilities of the studio. I love overdubbing. Now on this particular new record I'm making, there's a lot of what I would call sound design elements. Now, that's not to say they haven't been on all my records, but let's just say I've taken it to another level on this record. There's a lot of sound design. There's a lot of sound effects that kind of place you in a particular place and a particular feeling. And there's a lot of use of lo-fi sounds as well, keeping things sometimes in mono... But I'm making a lot of decisions on this album to keep things very small and mono, but also knowing that those things can be just as impressive in surround because you've got something very small and mono. You can place it very discretely in a particular place in the room. Sometimes when you have things that have been tracked four or five times, they're kind of coming from everywhere. But sometimes what's also nice in spatial audio is having something that's just mono and being able to place it very, very particularly in a particular place. And that can be just as effective in spatial as the big immersive sound. So I'm using a lot of mono reverbs, spring reverbs. It all kind of relates to the concept of the record, which I can't really talk about at the moment, but keeping things sounding almost old and rusted. And I think those are gonna be really effective in spatial audio, because I've got a lot of those kind of elements. I'm playing a lot of instruments I've never played before. I'm playing the drums on some tracks myself. I'm playing violins, oboes, harmoniums. It's a very — I don't wanna say it's a nostalgic-sounding record, because it isn't. There's a lot of use of modern technology too. But, yeah, it's gonna be a strange record, and I think it's gonna be a really interesting — the kind of [Dolby] Atmos mix I've never done before, in the sense of all these little details and things that will be very discretely, particularly placed in a speaker or a position in the room."
He produces too much stuff, too often IMHO. A bit like musical diarrhoea.
