Just back from seeing this at my local IMAX.
Score: 10/10Highly recommended.
I tried to think of something negative to say but I can't. Perhaps a tad over-sweet plucking of the heart strings at points but I can forgive that.
I hadn't really planned to see this, at least not in the cinema, until I fortuitously saw a review by The Critical Drinker and this very much got me interested. Until then I kept thinking it might be another
Ad Astra (which was truly awful), but thankfully it is more
The Martian (this new film is also based on an Andy Weir book).
And here is the final trailer just in case you haven't seen it.
Read the book a few years ago and loved it, can't wait to see Rocky....going to see it this Sunday.
Thanks for the heads up Reg. I really want to watch this, though I might read the book first. It won't be on streaming until June though.
The audio book was brilliant - looking forward to the film
I loved The Martian and I will probably watch this when I can download it.
I really liked Ad Astra, to be honest. Been meaning to watch it again. Seven years old already.
Maybe I was harsh in my throwaway description of Ad Astra, but I didn't like it at all.
I've just realised that I still haven't seen Ryan Gosling in the Neil Armstrong biopic,First Man. Or if I have I have completely forgotten it. Strange as I am a sucker for that kind of thing (The Right Stuff, From The Earth To The Moon, Apollo 13, Hidden Figures, Magnificent Desolation: Walking On The Moon, and of course the incredible Apollo 11). Hmm.. might start a thread on this....)
Think I will try and line up First Man for tomorrow night's 'film night'.
Really want to see this at IMAX but the times aren't terribly convenient. Will certainly endeavour to see it in a cinema though before it lands on bluray or whatever.
I was looking forward to
First Man but it's not quite the film for space nerds that we might have hoped for - more a personal / human interest focus sort of movie it seems (I haven't seen it).
I watched this review at the time. Very good YouTube channel if you're into space race stuff.
Just watched Project Hail Mary. A great movie all round really and pretty faultless. I'm not a fan of Ryan Gosling though, but he was very, very good in this. I didn't read the book first either, but I will still give it a go.
Well, I went from vowing I wouldn't miss this in IMAX, which I did, to settling for seeing it in a standard(ish) cinema, which I never did, to eventually watching it on Amazon Prime. ::)
Anyway, I broadly agree with the positive comments in this thread - this must be one of the best films of the year.
